The Crow Problem

they're back and squawking at 5-5:30am every flippin' morning

other than pellet gun, any ideas on how to get rid of?

tried the plastic owls (they just laughed at me), a CD with 'scary' sounds crows don't like (everyone laughed at me, including me) and a couple other things.

they mock me

Don't.

Crows (and stellar jays) eat wasp grubs.

They tore apart a paper wasp nest in a tree near my back door. Saved me from calling someone to get rid of it.

How do they taste? They could fill up your larder at the same time you could eliminate a pest.

It will get you in dutch with the ASPCA but the old school farmers around here will wing one and stake it out, alive, in their field. Its distress calls will scare off the rest of the flock, and crows are smart and will remember to avoid that field for a while.

Yeah, but most states only allow crows to be taken in the act of depredation.

Uh, where do you live, KOC?

Shoot, you live in a huge metropolis compared to Redcrest Ca. pop, 100. Get rid of the puny pellet gun and use the 12 gauge.

I'll take the crows at 5am anyday. I'm usually up by then in the summer, anyway.

Love crows, EH.

I have a crow story for you. Last week, the russells and I came home to a yard full of crows (nothing unusual) I let the dogs in the backyard and they fly off,....

This time, I immediately spotted that something was different with a young crow and scooped up Airwick before he had a chance to find out for himself. I ran to the porch, dropped him off and immediately ran back to stop Agape.

Too late, she had a young crow cornered in the backyard. I scopped her up and took her to the screened porch too. I thought it was curtains for the young crow, his wings were all messed up. I placed him on a box lid and hoped for the best.

Two hours later he was still hanging on but unable to fly. I called our humane society which put me in touch with the Souch Carolina Wildlife folks. They put me in touch with a wildlife rescue society here in Greenville.

I called and the nice lady was three miles away on another call. I rushed the crow over, she scopped him up and told me he was a teenage male crow who was emaciated. She also said that if Agape hadn't corned him he would have most likely died from being too weak to fly. She named him the Bob Jones crow, gave him a 80% chance to survive, and gave us a fridge magnet with a number to call to check up on our adopted crow.

Orange County, CA. we have common green area w/ trees behind the house in-between the houses up the hill from us.

this is not a couple crows. many.

most things online relate to farms, etc.

think it's legal to dispose of them during certain months of the year. could be wrong. I did 'take care of one' last year, but felt like crap afterwards. still despise them though. my sleep is more important.

30/06?

What cures the crows in my neck of the woods is the sheer amount of outdoor cat colonies. There are a ton of college students who tend to "lose" their pets come the end of the semester (as opposed to taking them home or handing them over to a shelter), so those cats end up depopulating the birds quite well.
