got a bad sunburn today - and have a 40 mi ride in 2 days....

...am i gonna die?

according to Wikipedia, you should avoid sun exposure while healing, which they say takes about 2-3 weeks.

would you

A. HFTU and ride

B. as above, but slather yourself in four or five gallons of SPF 70 and wear a burqa

C. stay home and eat bon bons

I'm all about the polls, especially whilst worrying about death by melanoma, so please feel free to vote.

an' tell me if I'm gonna die if I do the ride on Sunday

I've ridden some pretty long rides while pretty deeply and freshly burnt. Figured the damage was done.

If you look up all of your symptoms on the internets, you'll diagnose yourself with Sudden Severe Exploding Brain Cancer Of The Spine, and you'll never do anything. Ride.

PS: Bring bonbons.

I chose, ride it like a wussy boy. I mean, is there any other way for us to ride? No matter what condition our skin is in.

I'm getting over a bad sunburn. I got burned Saturday, was painful Sunday, more painful Monday, and finally on Wednesday started feeling better. I'm peeling now, and it's STILL RED. Sigh... I really will never learn. Although, I did use sunscreen. Just not on my chest and back. And tops of my feet.

the ride is in the morning....it takes me prolly three hours to do 40 miles (hilly course, I think), it;s a paid ride, not a DIY. So I'll be done and exhausted just in time to bake at noon.

I'm cranky about this because I usually am fastidious about sunblock and I haven't had a real sunburn since I was a teenager doing the beer and cutoffs thing on the beach

we went to a spa today and I didn't realize I'd be outside 90% of the time and they had no complimentary sunblock (they had everything else....)

I got really sunburnt once like I couldn't move my shoulders and spent the next 3-4 days outside with them exposed and so far I'm okay. . .

Sunscreen PLUS white cotton long-sleeved button down shirt. I wear one on long tours, to keep the day-after-day-after-day sunburn factor under control.

of course, you look like a total dork but it's a charity ride, so does everyone else. ;D

my noggin is always unprotected...*sigh*

looks like ai gotta wear my hulk hoagan doo-rag under my helmet tomorrow.

and long sleeve jersey for sure. screw the dork factor, i have little chance of looking hip anyway.

rode a short warm up this morning; finished up around noon and them shoulders and my face hurt some.
we just rolled around town drinking it up and that was a lot less painful (no sun). trouble is this is a ride that goes past historic mansions, so its not the type of ride you wanna last through and get over with quick.

It was meant to be encouraging.

I honestly think that Joe meant since "everything gives you cancer"...we need to worry less, enjoy more.

Joe Jackson is a heavy smoker and refuses to believe it's bad for his health. He wrote that song in response to people telling him he should quit.

How bad is a "bad" sunburn? I've gotten sunburned bad enough for blisters to form. Gotta love the Irish / Scottish Welsh / German ancestry for that. If it's that bad, I'd say not to ride.
