keeping cool

it's really hot. i don't have AC and i don't want to turn the fan on since it blows papers everywhere.

what can i do?

Also, how do i keep my laptop cool? the fan in the laptop is on almost all the time and the little laptop cooler thing which sits under the laptop is on. i'm worried that the laptop life will be shortened.

Ghetto air conditioner:

Copper tubing, high volume aquarium pump, vinyl tubing, hose clamps, zip ties, fan, large container (10gal min.) for ice bath.

Using the vinyl tubing as attachment from the aquarium pump to the copper tubing, make a copper coil to affix to the backside of the fan cage. Attach it to the fan with zip ties. Fill the container with ice and top off with water. Run the inlet hose from the tank, and the outflow recycles back into it for a constant cold water supply running through the coil along the back of the fan.

We used to do this in our college dorms since we didn't have air conditioners.

it'll be even better if you soldered aluminum fins to the copper piping.

it has been surprisingly hot for a week or so, as high as 90f which isn't that hot but is when you aren't used to it.

thanks for the DIY AC instructions. i do actually have a fish tank and i may well evict the fish. i've been topless spraying myself with a fine spray of water which is so undignified.

Pretend its cold and cool yourself that way. Apart from that, sorry.

Depends. Air vents could be clogged; you could have a stuck app in the background...hard to tell without more info.

my grandma always said a wet (but not dripping) handkerchief or similar wrapped loosely around your neck was very effective. oh, and 90 is nothing, htfu.

Take your clothes off until you are a comfortable temperature. That is what I do. Heck, clothes are just for protection from the elements anyway, so if you are warm, take them off since they are not serving their purpose. Take them ALL off.

90? Wow, that would suck. I can't imagine it got much above 80 when I was living there.

I keep cold water bottles in the refrigerator during the summer -- best to sit still, read, and drink cold water.

Otherwise, go to the movie theater during the hottest part of the day? Or go swimming.

You don't even have to spend money on a paper weight. This is a handy little invention that you can find for FREE to weight the papers down.

90 degrees? That's it, I'm moving to England. It was 95 here today with about 60% humidity. I'm officially on suicide watch for the next 5 months.
