Over the Sea to Skye: Skye Boat song (Video)

Today, I was thinking about my grandmother and remembering her. She was born in Scotland, on Skye and grew up there and Mohterwell, Scotland. This was her favorite song, and I recorded it this morning on a traditional Celtic instrument, the tin whistle. It's an Irish instrument, primarily, but the Scot's played them too.

and here's the piece, with scenes from Skye.

If yours is a Feadóg, then yeah. Mine is true Irish, made in Belfast by Feadóg.

Cool, when you get in my neck of the woods, we'll have to do some jamming. I have some nice Jazz progressions in D and it's anharmonic, Bm.

Nice. The only Isle of Skye song I've ever heard before is this one:

The story behind the song dates back to the Jacobite Rebellion when Prince Charlie had to flee to Skye to go to exile in France. The lyrics that go with it were written in 1884 to a traditional tune.

Very nice, Tom. I've always loved that sound of the tin whistle. Thanks for sharing that with us.
