Just got laid off, right before my vacation

I was with this company for 1-1/2 years, not my first lay-off, but it's going to be harder to find a job now. Times are tough and not a lot of controls/automation engineering positions out there.

Sure would be nice to jump into a truck and start driving, towing cars. Wish I had the capital to invest in a rig.

guess you'll be stealing cars now instead of towing them...

I am a little surprised, I thought controls engineering (PLC) had opportunities.
I assume you are from Orange County CA

Are you an ee?

Not an EE. Yes, I'm in Orange County.
I just started looking, currently updating my resume. There are some controls positions out there, however, I haven't seen as many recently. Monster and CareerBuilder have been sending me emails, and in the last 6 months the job postings have diminished considerably.

Yes it does. In the several years I was doing temp work - trying to get into a place full time - I had two places call me before Thanksgiving and Christmas - on a Sunday no less to say that my job has been eliminated and that I should not report on Monday.

Freaking sucks.

Feel for ya.

sorry this happened, especially at the timing of it.
Hopefully, this door closing means another one opening....one that leads to even better things.

Sorry to hear...

I might be able to help. I work for a Process Automation company and we are usually looking for projects people... I'm in the Engineering department, but I could make some calls to the Projects group.

Anyway, PM me your resume...

Things are kind of skinny in the Controls arena here in Houston, too. A year ago I was hiring like mad and working lots of overtime; now we are struggling to keep folks busy at 40 hrs.

Try to stay positive about this. It could lead to bigger and better things. They often do. I agree that it might be a bit more difficult finding work over the next while, therefore you might want to consider using this time to take some courses that might help you out later. It also shows a future employer how you use your time during your layoff.
