Lately all I do is wait for the end of the office day

... and get on my bike and enjoy the sun. Dont get me wrong, I do what needs to be done at the office, but with work, it'll always be there. You can spend hours into the evening getting projects done, but when the sun rises again, there will be yet more work waiting.

During the summer, all I wanna do is get out there and ride. Not be stuck in the office.

Sounds like time to cash in some "sick" leave, or a floating holiday.

Due to budget shortfalls, our job is making all city employees take furlough days (leave without pay). After 17 years, I have seen the city screw us employees every way possible.
Lately, when it even gets close to time to go home I will leave the office, get on my bike and ride off like a scalded cat.
I play it safe and leave right after the supervisor leaves for the day.

Dont you get a bunch of time off? My contracted hours are 8am-6pm Mon-Fri. But we generally work 7am-7pm. Sometimes (but not lately, not during summer), I go home, put my daughter to sleep, then come back into the office at 10pm and go home again at 1am. Then back at the office again at 7am.
