MTV used to be good - I got MTV Europe in 1993 and it used to be awesome. It had a bunch of weird commercials that didn't really mean anything and weird animations such as the cowboy with the MTV trousers on. Programme highlights included Headbangers Ball and Beavis and Butthead. FIRE FIRE FIRE! Oh, and MTV actually used to play music videos. Now its just stupid shows about celebrities and stuff. What the hell happened?
Going to the cinema was something special - how you waited for that ONE big summer movie to come out and the excitement of going to see it. You'd have to wait nearly a year for it to come out on video (video shops first, then sale). I nearly peed my pants when I first saw Jurassic Park.
When the music charts actually meant something and you waited to listen to them on a Sunday to record the stuff you liked onto tape. If you were really good, you could master just cutting out the DJs voice by pressing the button at the right time, but you'd always miss a bit.
Why did you never see them reloading their guns in the A-Team?
besides: mtv was better in the early/mid 80s; the 'event' aspect of movies started to die in the 80s (thanks to video); and American music charts haven't meant anything since... the 50s/60s? Certainly not in my lifetime.
