Who are your favorite photographers?

If this has been done before pls don't flay me alive, 'k? I searched the world over and phbbt! It was gone.

Let me preface by saying we could limit it to two or three but why quash your enthusiasm? How about we just keep to your absolute favorites, not artists you just 'sorta kinda' like? This will hopefully keep the servers flowing and the thread solvent as well....

Of course we could all probably name some foosters among our favorites, so feel free - I'll go on record first as saying I am wowed and then some by all the talent we have here, and I definitely have a few special favorites but I will post some other folks outside of BF, in the interest of sharing.

First off, I am a sucker for old portraits so I will at least include the ubiquitous Matthew Brady

and Edward Curtis, who made two of my favorite photos ever:

I also have been fortunate to work with some amazing photojournalists, including:

Allan Tannenbaum - he's been in burning Iraqi oil fields and dodged bullets but his milieu is chronicling NYC for four decades or so

Ziv Koren, ex-IDF soldier who has done some moving works in the middle east

Kate Brooks, who makes very powerful images, esp. of women abroad

Stephen Shames has documented important subjects for many years, perhaps none more so than his reportage on children, including child prostitutes in NY, forced conscription in Uganda and family planning.

Ilkka Uimonen blows me away. NO fear, period....

Liz Gilbert makes breathtaking images in Kenya and elsewhere

I saved my favorite for last - I am hardly a technical expert on what goes into making great images, but I know what I like, fwtw. Having had the good fortune to look at a great variety of work by Les Stone, I was moved beyond words at times. His site only scratches the surface....

Hope those were of some interest, and looking forward to your favorites

Nick t probably NSFW
Jeff Widener
Sam Mzima also probably NSFW

Wally Pacholka isn't a name that's very big in the photography world as far as I know, but his spin on night sky photography is one I've long appreciated. He took a famous picture of the comet Hale-Bopp that earned Time's Picture of the Year award in 1997. This is a much more recent shot of his:
