critique my tattoo idea

I am a family man who is about to turn 40. I cannot afford all the other mid life crisis gear so I am down to the tattoo. I plan on getting it on the back of my calf and the idea is as follows.
A chain ring with the names of my kids and a chain formed from my wifes name repeated looped around the chainring forming a ribbon. Does this sound doable?

I don't like tattoos on guys (or females for that matter) legs. Just my opinion.

Scale it up and cover your back Henry Rollins style.

Have a pic of your face tattooed on the back of your head, that way the ladies wont be able to tell if you're staring at them or not.

how about great big chains going around your torso, tying you up.

I agree but I have a friend that has some really nice calf tattoos. They're the only ones I've seen that I like.

Technically, calves get branded, not tattooed.

I think it's funny how (this happens on any forum not just here) when someone asks for opinions of placement of a tattoo or a design: Does this sound doable? is somehow read by others as: tell me whether or not you hate tattoos or not. Saying that, I like tattoos.

I think talking to the tattoo artist you choose might be the best bet in terms of getting advice on the tattoo.

This is Foo. If the thread does not divert off-topic nearly immediately, the thread must be ceremonially burned.

Seen a couple ankle tats that looked OK, although I do like an ankle "bracelet" that sits just above the sock line. Brother has one (black only) - looks nice. In general when I see an ankle, calf tat it just seems out of place - and maybe I've seen some weird ones like a big brilliant sea turtle ... I like a sleeve or hit the back

Yes, it is doable. Most things are but I am certain you can come up with something better than a tattoo. Do something for yourself, not to yourself.

Mmm, I'd move it to the back or arm. If you want it on your leg it has to be an ankle chain thing, but then I don't know if the artist can get it that small. That's just my opinion, anyway, since I'm not really a fan of leg tattoos either.

I've been wanting to get this as a tattoo:

but every time I think of needles stabbing me repeatedly, I freak out. But it's really cute and I want it. Can they knock me out cold then do the tattoo?

Admitting a mid-life crisis at 40 so you can justify something is lame.

I like that Neko - did you design it? I have a similar theme; that's a really neat design.

the pain isn't so bad at all depending what body part it is done on. To me it always felt more like a tweezer or pinching than anything even close to stabbing. I'll take tattooing over a dentist drill any day of the week.

I am very dissapointed in this thread. 20 posts and no scattalogical comments. No sex, no poop, no nothing!!

(I think your design is doable. find a good artist, have him/her draw it out and go for it!)

Nope, a very talented friend drew it. Ah well, maybe one of these days when I get truly and honestly knackered, I'll have the courage to face the dreaded needles...

It's illegal for a real tattoo shop to tattoo you while you're under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

I really like that design. Very peaceful.

if it is not a huge piece and not being done over an area with little or no fat/skin over the bone (like, say, on a hand, foot or shoulder) it shouldn't hurt much. Unless you'd be getting it filled with a light tone the white cat would take about three or four minutes to outline. The black one would take a bit longer to fill, of course. But it still wouldn't be that bad.

It is a real nice design. You could always get it on an article of clothing instead.
