8mm

My parents filmed everything on 8mm and Super8 until sometime in the late 80's. What is it about 8mm that makes me feel nostalgic?

It's old, and something generally only seen in the past.

It is cool, though.

(Nice pigtails, by the way.)

Wow, I thought I forgot to zip up again. What a relief to find out this is not about me.

Memories.
My dad did the same thing. Recently one of my brother-in-laws brought all of them to Costco and had them all put on CDs (yes I had no idea Costco did that). A bunch of us were sitting around watching them last weekend, what a hoot.

Your parents are going to ground you when they find out you are taking the orange thing off the barrel of your Airsoft again.

For me, heres how the 8mm nostalgia works...

1. Watching the shakiness in the films causes me to get nauseous.
2. I go to the bathroom and wretch.
3. Sitting there, over the toilet, I am reminded of the good times in college.
4. Nostalgia.

Hickeydog, you have managed a tricky feat, in that you have confused me about guns. Did someone make a necked down version of a 10mm and make a barrel in that weird caliber for a Bren? Or are you talking about an airsoft 8mm?

Hickey is not old enough for a firearm.

8 mm abound in rifles.

.357 sig is all you need, y'all.

For me, it's the sound of the projector that makes it nostalgic.

Hickey can buy a rifle. Just not a pistol. Yet.

UA - is that your family home movies in the clip? If so, we grew up the same way - boating and skiing. My parents were lame though, and didn't record our lives on film. Photos, sure, but nothing moving.

Way back in the day, I began my illustrious Hollywood career by working at a video production company that had an 8/16 mm film to video transfer service. I did that for 2 years. I saw lots of Disneyland, big redwood trees, the Golden Gate bridge, birthdays, Christmases and HS football games.

My parents never had a video camera of any kind, but we did take many, many pictures with one of these, which my dad still owns:

In fact...

I remember 8mm backup tapes, and of course people thinking they could get away with grabbing video tapes as backup media...
