What is it with Triathletes?

Every Sunday morning, my daughter and I ride together at the local veloway. I do a lot of volunteer work for a local charity, so I decided to pass out fliers for our charity ride. My daughter was hesitant to help me, because she is shy.
I tried to convince her that no one minds being approached by someone who is trying to help cure cancer. Unfortunately, I was proven wrong when I approached 3 guys with tri-bars on their bikes in the parking lot. I then told her that I would talk to the tri-guys and she could just talk to the women.
Without exception, every person I approached that had tri-bars was rude and every person with any other type bike was friendly and receptive.
I can only speculate why this was. Someone help my out.

Perhaps you can chalk it up to general jerkiness instead of being a triathlete. A lot of the world-class triathletes train in the San Diego area, and they are some of the nicest people I've met.

Triathletes are like bisexuals: No one trusts them.

No matter what sex you are...they'll run off with your SO.

If they were in motion they may have been training.

I am not receptive to peddlers of any sort either. I mostly ride a hybrid. I especially hate door-to-door peddlers and the ones who call my phone during dinner time.

+1 A few of my friends are on the UCSD tri-team and they are all very nice people.

Similarly, Biathletes are like trisexuals. People are frightened and confused by them.

So you're an anti-peddler pedaler?

Tee hee, you could say that. I have to deal with 20358939535 telemarketer calls at work, too.

I have a policy that if a "charity" calls me without my prior consent, I will not give a dime to that charity.

Yeah, I'm a hard @$$.

Dude, how dare you think that way about triathletes? Don't you know that a triathlete is the center of the known Universe?

Real tri-bars, or just road bars and aero-clip ons? You may be mistakenly attributing rudeness to tri-folk when they're actually just some misguided roadie who's angry that the ugly pound of crap he bolted to his handlebars doesn't really make him go faster.
