How typical is...

...experiencing someone talking on a cellphone in a stall, in the restroom?

So a man was traveling north to Alberta. He needed to use the bathroom and so at a rest stop he goes into a stall. He sits down and was surprised to hear someone in the next stall say, "So how ya doing?"

The man gulps and thinks about what he should say and then decides to answer. So he clears his throat and says, "uh....I'm fine."

Then the stranger in the next stall says, "So where are you headed?"

Again the man, a little nervous answers, "Uh...I'm headin north to Alberta."

Then the stranger asked, "So what have you been up to?" Again the man answers, "Not much, I'm actually on a business trip."

The man sat there waiting for another question when finally he heard the stranger in the next stall impatiently say, "Look, I'm going to have to call you back, some idiot in the next stall thinks I'm talking to him."

Talking on a cell doesn't bother me...wide-stance toe tapping does.

Seriously?!?!?

First time it happened it was a circuit city employee (kid) about 2-3 years ago. It completely grossed me out.

Since then, it's happened at work a few times.

Personally, I still think its gross and would never do it. I do, however, pull out my phone and play a game on it while I'm on the stall.

That happened to me many years ago. It was back in college and the guy was someone I studied with sometimes. I called him (or he called me, I forget which) and we started talking. I heard noises in the background so I figured they were normal "around the house" noises.

Suddenly I hear what sounds like he's got a pitcher of water that he's dumping into a sink of dishwater from about 2 feet up. It sounds like water falling from a distance into another pool of water. I'm quite baffled as to what he'd be doing this for.

Then, *FLUSH*. Nobody could see how big my eyes got at that moment. I thought that was one of the uncouth thing ever at the time.

People are on their cell phones in the stall or urinal at my work every time I go in there. The other day, some guy managed to prop up his unit at the unrinal so he could pee and type an email on his blackberry with a stylus (thus, using both hands on the phone) at the same time.

Yup, I call whilst on the crapper all the time. Then during the conversation I'll tell the person on the other end of the phone what I'm doing. Freaks em out good. I'm just that nuts folks.

I'm sorry you had to witness that. Ugh!

People who are really crazy don't have to remind you all the time just how crazy they are. It just shows. I think you talk the talk, but I'm suspicious whether you do the walk.

Happens in my bathroom at work all the time, often co-workers. Probably the same co-workers that prompted the building management to put a sign up in the bathroom stalls directing people not to spit on the floors of the stalls (sign went up a few weeks after we moved into the current office).

Speaking of my office bathroom, the way it's set up, you can see every single urinal except one closest to the door from the door, which is always open. That means almost everyone uses that single urinal. In the past few weeks, a sign has gone up on top of the urinal saying something to the effect of "this urinal is broken and is being repaired." No one seems to pay any attention to it.

I'd say that talking between bathroom stalls or singing in a stall are perhaps worse than talking on the phone. I don't know... it's a thin line.

I had an office bathroom like that once with two urinals in view of the door, so you had no choice. You could see the dudes using it from the door each time it was opened. One day the door hinge broke and the door was stuck open, but you gotta go, so people still used it in plain sight from other parts of the office. It was the prudest women of all who we would find strategically positioned in the nearby breakroom that week so they could see into the bathroom while guys used it--not surprised, really.
