The awesomeness of the Opera browser

Holy bananas, this browser is on comp roids. It's so fast not even felix jones could out run it. Anyways, I installed opera 10 beta 2 on Mint, but it won't even open anymore.

In the terminal I typed opera and got:

Quote:
/home/erik/lib/opera/10.00/opera: 7: Syntax error: ")" unexpected

A guy on the mint forums said that I

Quote:
have installed it to your home directory - not something one should normally do in Linux. OPera should be installed to system directories. When you download the correct .deb file from the Opera website you then run:

sudo dpkg -i nameofpackeage.deb

did you do that?
Ok, I saved it to my desktop and typed the code in.

I got

Quote:
dpkg: error processing opera_10.00.4537.gcc4.qt3_i386.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
opera_10.00.4537.gcc4.qt3_i386.deb
Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this? I miss opera and its blazing speed.

Opera Beta 10 scores 100% on the Acid test, that should tell you something. How good is Opera? I've been using it for years, since it was an ultra-lightweight that would fit on a floppy. And I paid for it.

That last error looks like it doesn't know where the .deb is either. type in the command from the same directory as the file.

You'll have to "cd /home/"EJ123"/Desktop/" and then "sudo dpkg -i nameofpackeage.deb"

Oh and you know about the Wiki, right?

The only place Opera belongs is on my mobile...until Skyfire can squash the bugs.

I hate Opera. It's fast until it gets some unknown memory leak and kills your box. Plus, Chrome is just as fast and the next version of FF will have a new Javascript engine, thus making it as fast as Chrome.

Plus, it's UI kind of sucks and I don't really feel that their innovations are *that* useful.

To make matters worse, IE8 is actually decent. (I'm only using Firefox b/c it supports multiple profiles; otherwise, I'd continue using IE8.)

No, it actually doesn't...considering that most web sites out there have shoddy coding standards to begin with.

IE8 fails the Acid3 test, and it still renders ALL of the web pages I go to correctly. (Except Slashdot, though it gets it mostly right and Slashdot is abysmal as a web site anyway...)
