Llws 2009

Yes, it's that time of year again. Time for the ONLY sporting event of the year that gets me excited.

Little League World Series 2009

They are not quite down to the final 16 U.S. Teams yet, but the final tournaments are under way. Some are being televised.

Schedule here.

My old ball park isn't in it again this year like they were last year. That was mega-exciting!!!!

There is (possibly if they win the tournament) a chance of a Little League team just a rock's throw from where I live now making it in though. The final NorthWest is between an Oregon team and a Washington team. The Washington team is Mercer Island Little League (about 10 minute drive from my house). If they make it, I'll have to look out for a send off party so I can go and wish them well.

Once the series itself gets underway (Aug 21-30, 2009), game results can be found here.

Since my old Florida Hometown league isn't in it this year, all I can say is GO MERCER ISLAND!!!!

Regionals over the weekend:

Washington (Mercer Island) beat out Oregon for the Northwest title!

So Cal beat Nor Cal for the West title!

One regional left, tonight, and the series proper starts on Friday!

CongratZ Mercer Island!!! That is about 10 minutes from my house...I'm going to see if they have a send off party and if so, go and wish the team good luck!

With the final LL regional champ game last night, Staten Island, NY is the last U.S. team to qualify for the LLWS.

All teams are now decided.

Sure I still fit.....a uniform for each appendage.

Well, it was an exciting weekend in LLWS play. My beloved hometown boys are out of it losing both of their first two games in their pool ( waiting for the jokes on that one ). The two big teams to beat on the American side appear to be Warner Robbins, GA and Chula Vista, CA.

I watched a great game yesterday. Curacao (Caribbean team) versus Japan. It was probably the most exciting LLWS game I've ever seen. Japan was pretty strongly favored, but it was not to be. Every inning but one they scored points and every time they did Curacao came right back with points to tie. That is until the last inning when Curacao came back with an extra point to win it!

They were saying yesterday how a documentary was made about the Curacao team. I'd like to see that when it comes out.

Sorry...Peabody is already out just like Mercer Island, WA. They lost to West (California) yesterday....it was a heartbreaking massacre. They held the CA (powerhouse hitters) to only 2 runs until the last inning, then CA whopped 12 runs in that last inning to finish the game 14-0.

I'm worried the same might happen to Mercer Island in their last game today again Warner Robbins, GA. GA's team is just as powerful.

If you are interested in keeping up with any games while at work, like I am doing. You can monitor now and then on the web cams for the two stadiums.

Volunteer Stadium (primary):

Lamade Stadium (secondary):

Down to the wire.

First set of semi-finals were yesterday.
American team that moved on => Texas
International Team => Mexico

Today's movers
American => California or Georgia
International => Chinese Taipei or Curacao

So championship games for each side
Texas v. (California or Georgia)

Mexico v. (Chinese Taipei or Curacao)

I'm feeling Curacao this year....I think I'm rooting for them to go all the way!

My favorite Curacao lost to Chinese Taipei just now.

Looks like international champ game will be Mexico vs. Chinese Taipei.

Tonight (5pm EST on ESPN)
Warner Robbins, GA vs. Chula Vista, CA

I have no idea who could win this game...both teams are massively talented!

The coach for the San Antonio team is a younger brother of a good friend of mine. Needless to say they are quite excited for this weekend.

Very cool!!!

I thought Cali had them in the bag the other night....but I learned otherwise. They aren't the "big hitters" like Cali is, but they are solid base-hit hitters and their defense might be the best out there.

They're playing Cali again for the final US Championship on Saturday since Cali won against Georgia last night! It should be a good game, I think. Cali will try some new strategies, but Texas defense can handle just about anything.

A very eventful game last night between California and Georgia. Cali had 2 run lead, then Georgia tied it back up, then got another 9 runs. Cali came back and tied (10-10), then got the 1 run they needed in bottom of 6th to win over Georgia.

Interesting statistic they gave last night:
All 25 games up until the TX v. NY game yesterday had a total of 5 double plays.
The TX v. NY game had 5 in that one game.
Last night's CA v. GA game had 4.

Also, the record of most home runs by a team in the LLWS is 15 set by team Japan back in early 2000s. This CA team is now up to 13 or 14 with one, possibly two (if they win against TX for US champ) more games to go. Most suspect they'll beat the record.

Chinese Taipei beat Mexico......but the US Championship game = WOW!!!!

The record for team home runs in the LLWS is 15 set by team Japan about 7-8 years ago with 15 home runs. California came in having already tied that record. They smacked 3 in the first inning, one with 2 men on, another was a grand slam! They got 9 runs in the first inning.

They ended up winning by the 10 run mercy rule at 4 innings with a 12-2.

Oh...did I mention the team they beat is the same team that beat them a few days ago. I think they wanted to prove they weren't going down that easy.

CONGRATULATIONS to Chula Vista California. They won the championship game over Chinese Taipei to take home the LLWS title! They set a record for most home runs by a team in the series play with 19 (previous record was 15).
