    This drought sucks...

Went to a stream in Austin to take pictures, one which normally once was always had water in it even in the worst of times previously.

Bone dry. Here is hoping that El Nino dumps some rain in central Texas in mass quantities soon.

you don't want mass quantities of rain at once, you want a steady drizzle lasting for at least a month.that way it soaks in and doesn't run off causing mass floods.mind you in central texas an inch of rain probably qualifies as mass quantities, around here we call that a light shower.

In Central Texas, we have droughts or flash floods. The "fun" begins when the first sprinkle turns the oil and dirt on the road into a nice slick substance causing a lot of wrecks. Then it continues when people drive around barricades and then wonder why their vehicle is now acting like a barge.

Having just been through a 3 yr long drought, Central TX has my sympathy.

What is so weird about the weather patterns is that we have had lots of rain here in OK over the past 3 years and are only 350miles north of you. We had a horrendous drought 4-5 years ago where the entire countryside was on fire all summer. Then lots of rain. Our lakes are still >10feet above normal!

It should pass for you guys this autumn if the el nino persists.

Be careful what you wish for. With TSs Claudette, Ana, Bill and Hurricane Guillermo in the Gulf or coming across the Atlantic, we might get a good dousing. Fortunately Claudette stayed out far enough today to have little effect on our area. Should just be a rain maker.

Our drought started in around 2000 and lasted roughly 8 years. It coincided with certain politicians political terms.
Apparently, all it did was move south.

I was in SoCentral TX last week for a few days. From about Rockdale south to Columbus it looks like winter. Even the shallow rooted oaks, water oaks and pin oaks, are dying around LaGrange and Columbus.
