One of my photos have been "published".

One of my pictures was used in this months (October 2009) issue of Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine. It is a half page ad for www.aquariacentral.com.

Here is the photo that was used.

Here it is in the magazine.

Probably not a big deal to most of you but I think it's kinda cool.

It is a nice picture, but I have a question.

How many of the babies weren't eaten within two days of that photo being taken?

Eight or nine have survived and are now over an inch long. The parents (the two pictured) did a great job at protecting their fry. I'm going to eventually have to give most of the little one's away, my tank is pretty aggressive already and once those guys grow up it could get ugly.

Here is a picture of the tank they are in, it is a 300 gallon aquarium. It is 96"x30"x24".

I've kept pirhana's before. Most boring fish I have ever owned. They are very shy by nature. The way people make them mean and tear things up is by starving them for a week or so then throwing food in the tank. I'm not a big fan of starving any animal for my own pleasure.

Coool!!

Are those your fish and fry? Convicts?

They were pretty prolific for me - ended up with several aquariums of them. Parents were excellent with them, it was the babies that beat the snot out of each other.

Do a search for parachromis dovii. You will be amazed at the pictures with their teeth showing. Here is a picture of my dovii. Right now it is about 6", I got it at 1 1/2" about five months ago. He lives by himself in a 210 gallon tank. Every fish I've tried keeping with him (including three other dovii's) have become fish food.

Yes, they are mine. The dad (barred fish) is an Amarillo, the mom is a red devil. They are both Cichlids (same family as convicts).

A few have a little color on their fins now but no orange or red yet. Red devils usually don't get their color until they are around four or five inches though.

For example this fish is now almost the same color as the mother posted above. This one is a male though.
