Lottery...

I'm the lottery monkey for my office, and every time the jackpot gets up past, oh... $100million, I'm the one running to get 200+ tickets for my desperate coworkers (and myself). When they drop off their dollar(s) they all have to tell me exactly what they'd do with the money if we won. Some people are really ridiculous, FYI.

So that begs the question... If you won the lottery (which is up to $207,000,000 right now FYI), what are the VERY FIRST FIVE THINGS you'd do with the cash? Obviously we'd all get a lawyer/financial planner/turn in our two week notice first, but what would you do first with the actual cash? Say... $10million total.

Mine:

(1) Go to MAG (fancy car dealership here in Dublin), buy Aston Martin Vanquish
(2) Donate a portion to the Humane Society
(3) Buy a sweet house near water with an amazing yard and gourmet kitchen
(4) Pay off my parents' new condo, cars, any debt they have, plus give spending cash
(5) Aquire plane tickets to the Greek Islands with my hunny, rent an amazing villa and chill out

I would give 10% off the top to my church, or other churches, after some careful consultation and prayer.

I would have a home built to the exact tastes of my wife and myself on the lot I am on now, or in the same neigbhborhood.

I would set up a trust to insure the financial security of my kids for life.

I would pay off all my debts.

I would buy a racing sailboat, trailer and tow vehicle

I would design and build a hotrod, mostly likely a 32 Ford

heh...we're up to $252million here in NC...those of us (here at work) in this round would get ~$3.5million after taxes....

1a) build a house in the mtns with everything i've always wanted in it
1b) build/buy a house on the Outer Banks
2) donate to the American Diabetes Foundation (family history)
3) take care of anything my Dad needed for his remaining years (which i hope are quite a few)
4) fund an Airwick bike tour
5) pay off my new car
6) buy a motorcycle - Ducati Monster
7) set up some sort of trust fund for my kids

1) Pay off the mortgage.
2) Buy a couple of new cars. Maybe get me a Honda or something fancy like that.
3) Squirrel a bit away for the kids educations
4) Buy a condo up in Crested Butte.
5) Drive to work, quietly put in my two weeks notice, and then take my co-workers out to the Golden Corral for lunch.

Revamp the farm.
New tractor, new thresher, etc.

But first I'd travel all the way around the world (second, first I would set up trusts for my nephews and charity).

Since I realy believe that lotteries are a tax on the math impared [almost no chance of winning] I haven't thought of it much, but:
I would still finish the project I'm working on.
Give a wad to 4H, the NRA, ducks unlimited, trukeys unlimited
Pay off my two daughters houses
Something to local animal care (not the national one which doesn't really support animals)
Something to fight MS and cancer.
hunting trips to Africa, Alaska, and Peru.

1. Fly all my friends to Vegas for a weeks vacation.
2. Get a lawyer for my friends that will most likely get sent to jail in Vegas.
3. Go to the doctor's for anti-biotics (I'll be in Vegas and I WILL need them).
4. Set fire to some couches in Vegas.
5. Enter rehab six months later.

First five, huh? The funny thing is, I'm not actually sure I'd quit my job immediately. Would certainly think about it, but maybe a six months down the line rather than 2 weeks.

While I'm sure actually having $10 million would make things different, this is what I'd do if I had the money and time:

- Give parents money to finish renovating house as they wish, not as budget permits
- Buy first-class tickets for me, my sister, her husband and her in-laws to visit our parents in said house (never flown first class, would like to try)
- Fly to get old stuff from university out of storage, sell some, give some away and bring the rest to Hong Kong where I will
- Buy an apartment
- Buy a nice guitar

No cool or charitable stuff in the top 5 (except for the guitar), since those would realistically require a good deal more consideration.

In this order:

1. Pay off the homes of my siblings
2. Pay for University for the kid
3. Start a support system for homeless verterans
4. Pay for shots and neutering of all the animals at the local shelter for a year
5. Be a silent partner and pay for the full first year of inventory, overhead and operation of a boutique bike shop for Dan.

1-I'd set my daughters up with an investment with GE that would pay them $32,000 a month for 30 years.

2-I'd set up a few choice family members and friends each with an investment with GE that pays out $7000.00 a month for 30 years.

3-I'd set my wife and I up with an investment with GE that would pay us a stupid outragous amount of money a month for 30 years.

4-I'd make a few choice investments with GE that would cover any grand kids that may "pop up" in the future.

5-I'd buy my dream home someplace (nothing big...really.) semi-tropical, beautiful, and friendly where my wife and I can live out the rest of our days in (hopefully) peace and quite.

$10M?

- Set up parents with their retirement property.
- Start a trust for bioengineering research funding grants.
- Retire to someplace more equatorial, open a bike co-op and help keep people rolling.
