Water in your ear

I've had what feels like water in my left ear going on two days now. What can I do to get rid of it other than stabbing out my ear drum with a sharp object? Am especially in favour of methods involving fire and/or extremely high voltages.

When you have water in your ear, it's best to pour more water (warm) in to chase the water out. Gotta fill your ear with warm water then tilt your head and let all the water pour out. Gently swab with a cotton swab to dry your outer ear.
Ernest

PS: In extreme cases you may have to do this up to 3 times. Tilt head, pour water in to fill ear, wait a few secs, then tilt head to pour water out. You'll feel a warm gush of water pour out.

I soak a cotton ball with hydrogen peroxide. Hold the saturated cotton ball near the affected ear and squeeze it so that the hyrdogen peroxide will run into your ear canal. Give it about 20 seconds the tilt your head such that any excess fluid runs out. Gently remove what remains with a Q-tip.

Also think Big_es suggestion would work.

What you most likely have in your ear is a build up of earwax. Its common. If it was just water then it would just run out. Water does that. What has most likely happened is that some water has been trapped by some earwax and won't run out again.

Make an appointment with a doctor to have your ears syringed out. What they do is squirt warm water into your ear with a syringe (no sharp) until they dislodge the wax. Now it is a VERY good idea to soften the wax the best you can first to make the job easier. If the wax is too hard they may give up before removing it all because there is a minor risk to your eardrum if they syringe too hard.

Now I will warn you that after you put some oil (you can get proprietary earwax removing oil or just use virgin vegetable oil) in your ear you will go completely deaf in that ear if you aren't already deaf so only do one ear at a time even though you will likely have wax in both ears.

Earwax build up is just one of those things that happens to some people and its not all that unusual. I have read that one likely cause of earwax build up is a lack of omega 3 fats in your diet.

^^^

Had one of my ears get plugged on me - and of course I "worried" at it with all sorts of swabs, etc - went to the store and got the ear cleaning solution (oily stuff) - nothing. How freaking irritating not to hear correctly out of one side! And of course by now my ear ached, and was bleeding a bit from me poking at it.

Went to doctor. He shot a bottle of warm water into it via a nice long nozzle ---- and held out this bed pan thingee under my ear. It hurt a little from the pressure of the water ... BUT what came out was ... nearly embarrassing - I mean I'm clean - clean my ears out, etc etc etc - but sheesh - where the hell THAT come from!

And, could I hear!?!?!?! I could hear my hair brushing my ear - nearly had him do the other ear!!!

And later I find out a couple friends do it on a yearly basis, not because they have to - just maintenance.

Go to the docs and report back in on what came out.

Not a joke, I use the same method and it works like a charm. But in the OPs case, it seems a bit more serious than just a little water stuck in there.

Win.

Tilt your head to one side, squirt a bit of peroxide in (gently), hold it there until it stops fizzing. Repeat in the other ear.

this works usually. If not, I'd suggest dynamite.

Any problem can be fixed by a properly sized, placed, and detonated explosive charge!

That blue bulb thing was known as the Snurfer in my house. Warm water in that is a good first step. Sometimes my mom used q-tips and a few times... a bobby pin I did have one buildup that required a trip to the doctor, same thing as Tude. A medical-grade Snurfer and a kidney shaped pan.

C4 > Dynamite

You can make C4 into a string and jam it in there. Shape charges, FTW!!!

SUCCESS!!!!!

Decided to go for the oil to soften the wax and the warm water to get it out. Used extra virgin olive oil in lieu of baby oil. After that, poured in warm water from a small teapot and emptied my ear a few times.

It felt AWESOME when it unplugged. Wow.

Thanks, Foo.... seriously.

this is what I do.

If I feel I have water in my ear, I do this while showering and indeed, sometimes it takes two or three times. I will often leave my head tilted to hold in the water and sort of massage the water filled ear before tilting my head back the other way to allow drainage to occur. I think it sort of siphons the trapped water out.

I would wait until Chinese New Year and then blow up some fireworks in your ear. Solve the problem and celebrate at the same time. Dynamite is just too much. Showing off like that is unbecoming.
