Clothes in their second life.

Anybody here wear clothing made from recycled materials? I ordered a windbreaker and I have to pick it up later. It was kind of spensive for being a windbreaker but hey. I figured I'd give it a try. It won a couple of awards for it's performance in different conditions and the fact that it's "green". It's made of recycled plastic bottles!

years ago there was a pair of designers on the Lower east side here that made all sorts of sexah stuff out of old inner tubes. Rawr.

they were in the media a lot, worn by a-listers, etc etc. They went under tho - I spoke with Atom recently and she said they're coming back soon.

Pretty much all of the Nau.com stuff I own (other than the merino) is recycled. It all rocks.

None of mine are recycled, but I recycle many of mine by donating them when I no longer use them.

How does it perform compared to traditional new textiles?

Edit: Just looked up the clothing on Nau. Great designs, I love the style but really costly.

I heard if you buy stuff from them and it gets wrinkled, if you stop in the store, they will Presta it while you wait.

I have a pair of Vans that are made of hemp and bamboo charcoal. Most comfortable shoes ever. They look like boating shoes.

Works great, I can't say I see plusses or minuses as compared to "virgin" fibers. The windbreaker I have is nice. So are the pants and shirts. I don't have any "hard" water proof type stuff so can't attest to that.

Full retail is to pricey for my blood, however, they regularly run clearance sales. <50% and often happen near my birthday so my mother in law often will get me something.

I bemoan the fact that they discontinued the wearever pants, though.

I actually just remembered, years ago I had some dress socks made out of recycled

No, I can't say that my clothes are, but a lot of my postings here are comprised of a minimum 50% post-consumer recycled electrons.

On the Appalachian Trail ponchos & rain shorts made out of Tyvek (the vapor barrier used in housing) have become popular.
