When grown men cry...

It had been a long, sucktastic, and pain ridden day and after yet another MRI I dragged my sorry ass over to the bike co-op to see what was up.

When I got there I saw a mint Norco trike and told one of the volunteers we should hold it for an older fellow who had asked me about a trike and another volunteer said his friend had also been looking for just this kind of thing as his friend has MS and cannot ride on two wheels.

He made a call and the fellow that came turned out to be the same guy... when we showed him the bike there were a few tears of joy as he said this was exactly what he had been looking for but because he was on income support he would not be able to afford to buy it.

I said I would discuss it with one of the board members as we have a no holds policy and a sliding fee scale... and we slid the scale to 0.00.

When I came and told him that the price was nothing and the bike was his he teared up again and when I saw him riding the bike with a big assed smile on his face I had to wipe away a few tears of my own.

He said he had not ridden a bike in nearly 40 years.

He said that with the trike he can leave his walker at home and use his cane... the trike already had a holster for that.

And then I realized that my day wasn't sucking nearly as much.

That is very cool, Sometimes we forget that there are people making their way through life a lot worse off than our selves. It can change your perspective on things. I liked you anyway, but I like you more today

Isn't funny how a major whack to the head can change a sucktastic mood, into a pretty good one.
You did a good thing.

I find that just a brief pause to reflect is often all I need now to change a negative to a positive. But pain can be debilitating in it's ability to alter our perceptions. Glad that something happened that allowed you escape the pain and find joy Sixty.

You guys give me too much credit... I hang with some really decent people.

I do understand why this guy was so happy... I know how much people on disability benefits get and there is no way an $800.00 bike (2009 price) would fit in that meager budget.
