I just reached a whole new level (smoking thread)

My response to the new tax... 7 bucks a pack? No way Jose!

$2.50 for a box of 200 empty cigs, with filter and all.
$20.00 for a 3oz bag of McClintock Menthol blend

Just made one and taste just like newports...

See ya later... gotta roll 199 more.

Having watched as lung cancer took the life of a relative, I will never smoke again. Smoked quite a bit in my 20s, so I am not laying blame, being holier than thou, etc. Just stating fact.

I quit on my birthday in 2000. I have promised myself I will not smoke again until I'm 70, if I want to at that time.
No judgement here, as I found smoking very pleasant. But, as jsharr said, I watched my grandfather die from cancer, his was throat cancer, from many years of smoking. I don't want that to happen to me, and I certainly don't want my family to have to watch that.

I'm using anti-cancer additives on my creations... don't worry guys

If I get sick, at least this way I won't be so broke and will be able to afford my medications.

Ruben. You can shake this. Making one significant change in your life is proof you have the capacity to shake this. Please at least try it.

I used to be a member of a Church the heavily suggested that you smoke. The founder told us that it beat cancer. Believe me, the people in the Church smoke alot.

umm....how they gonna do that? There's too many compounds in tobacco that have DNA altering capabilites. There's even some radioactive compounds in there (but that's probably true about almost all plant material).

Chantix is believed to cause some pretty crazy stuff in some people. It may well have cost Carter Albrecht, guitarist for Edie Brickell and New Bohemians, his life. Just saying.

"Albrecht became intoxicated. Rathbone drove him to her house, and they both took their dose of Chantix. A short while later, Albrecht began speaking incoherently, broke a drinking glass on a table, and hit Rathbone several times, something he had never done before."
quoted from above Wiki page

Read the package info--Do not drink alcohol. Couldn't it be the alcohol, and not the Chantix that cost him his life???

It well could, but many smokers drink and many drinkers smoke and almost every med out there says do not take with alcohol, etc. It was not the alcohol alone, as he had been drinking for years. The Chantix was a new addition and has been linked to other such deaths. Did not know him personally, but know those who did know Carter well.

His family has filed suit against Pfizer / Chantix.

I wish I didn't have to ride my stupid bike because then I could take up smoking. Smoking makes you look really cool, like Marlon Brando or a cowboy. It makes you a good role model for your kids, especially when you wake up in the morning hacking while you look for your lighter. I really can't really think of any better habits to have.

Hey. Hey. Hey. Why did this turn into a bashing thread?

Back in the 70s my parents used to roll their own cigs. They also rolled a lot of joints too. But I vaguely remember the little contraption they used to roll their "whatevers."

Man, they smoke a lot of pot. I mean A Lot of pot.

I have seen those old rolling machines. I also recall watching an older relative roll his own cigarettes when I was a little kid way back in the 60's. He however rolled by hand. Had a bag of tobacco, papers and that was it.

Smoked for 44 years. 2.5 packs a day at the end. Did the Chantix thing and drank like a fish with it (oddly enough it helped me NOT think about smoking), but only after I edged into it. Tried one drink, then two until I knew I could handle it.

Why do we always have to sue. Can't anyone take personal responsibility for themselves? I don't say suing isn't a valid option in some circumstances but I think people jump to it way too fast too frequently.

Not preaching because like I said, it took me 44 years to stop however; now that in 4 days I will have 2 years and 4 months behind me I can't be happier about it. Not that I don't miss it. I too loved it but it was just getting too stupid. Got to be where I was hacking 24/7 and when I caught myself blaming it on allergies I knew I had to do something. That plus I was living in fear of the day they were going to tell me I had to quit or die. I knew I would never be able to handle the pressure of HAVING to quit and quiting so I figure I'd take it one depressing thing at a time.

And yep. Still miss it but like being off of it more than miss it.
