Yes and no. I am required to get the flu shot every year (and H1N1 this year, too). And, of course, it's free to me. Military members are required to get them.

The SHOT is a dead virus. The nasal mist is a weakened live virus. Because my wife has a chronic immune disorder (Type 1 diabetes), I am not allowed to get the mist and must get the shot. It's highly unlikely the mist would cause her to get the flu, but better safe than sorry.

WP - get the mist. No needles and you're vaccinated. Most of my co-workers get that and none get sick.

I think H1N1 is only a needle option.

Do not want flu shot - which is being offered to staff, faculty and students (at a cost) again this year, and it's happening in a couple of weeks - I asked and it's not the H1N1 shot. That shot is going to be separate.

That shot, when available, I will accept. Hopefully it will be available soon. (and yes I hates needles)

NOOO! No shots for me! I hate needles. I had enough of shots when I worked at the animal shelter and had to get rabies shots every 4 years. Every time you turned around somebody gave you a tetanus shot just for good measure.
In all honesty, I should get the flu shot, but what I should do in life and what I really do are two different things.

THE rabies shot(s)?? I mean the series???? and they don't do them in the arm or the butt either!!! That's an abdomen shot! And from what I read/hear - quite painful! <runs away flailing arms!>

They were pre-exposure in the arm. 4 shots given in a 2 week period. There is NO cure for rabies, but all shots, whether given to humans or mammals may give the subject a "fighting" chance if the virus dose is a weak or defective strand. If you get a good strong exposure to the rabies virus it may be a good idea to list me as your benificiary. It's all we have at the time so it is required most anywhere nowadays if you own pets or work around animals.
Since the virus is deadly and contagious, we take it mighty seriously here in Texas. If you go to a hospital and report that you've been bitten and scratched and the animal that did the biting gets sick and dies of ANYTHING within the next 10 days from the bite. You WILL begin the rabies series immediately, no questions asked. We don't even care what the animal died from (tests will be done to determine cause of death but thats besides the point). The "men in white suits" will come down from Austin to "persuade" you to take the shots.

I'm getting one. I got some $^!t that nearly killed me many years ago. I've been getting the shots annually ever since. ...And I've already been sick once this year. Thought I was going to get sick again the other day, but I pedaled and sweated it out.

All this medication doctors want to pump into our systems just make our immune systems weak. I'm 41 and I've never taken a single prescription medication in my adult life, and I never get sick, except for the occasional cold.
Lucky you! It doesn't work that way for all of us.

I have to get the full ride (regular and H1N1) as I work in healthcare. I'm too old for the spray, but wouldn't want it anyway- I hate nose sprays and drops, with probably the same degree of animosity WP has toward shots.

I'll do it if you can either

a. come up here

b. wait till we come to NC to visit

seriously, girlfren, if you could handle the heat and exhaustion of that covered bridge ride, you'll live through the shot. Maybe ask around friends and coworkers for a dr. office or lab that has good people? (Some people are less Draculaic than others....)

I'm just now getting over the H1N1. It was pretty rough. No worse than regular flu though. I always get the regular flu shot. Unfortunately for me, the H1N1 hit me before the shot was available.
