Burglar leaves his Facebook page on victimís computer

Too funny. Burglar checks his Facebook page while robbing house, then forgets to close/logout the web page before he leaves with goods.

The victim later noticed that she was missing two diamond rings from her dresser in the same room as her computer.
I'm curious now: what's to stop someone who's been burgled from "later noticing" that small, fairly hard to trace items of high value are "missing" and collecting insurance on them?

Once you file and complete a claim, you can't go back later and claim more things (at least I don't think so).

We had the opposite issue when our house was robbed as a kid.

We had this very high value collectible plate. We found the box, but the plate was missing from the box, so we claimed the loss.

A few days later, we found the plate. We felt bad for claiming something that wasn't really stolen, but then later we discovered plenty of other things that were stolen which we didn't claim which resulted in higher value that the plate we did claim (insurance companies love to rush the claim process before you find more things missing, of course).

So, we still didn't get an equal claim, but at that point material things didn't mean much...

as recent victim of a burglary, I can say that I have 6 mos from the date of the burglary to file all claims. anything after that, SOL. In addition, most policies have loss caps for certain categories of items, like jewelry may be limited to $2,000 per incident (not per item, but per burglary).

That's ridiculous. I hope you didn't lose a lot of jewelry in your burglary.

VERY good advice. I learned similar when I called my insurance company to get explicit coverage for a laptop I was using on campus last year. It cost me a little bit extra on my homeowners, but having protection against theft, power surges, and accidental microwaving is worth it.

You didn't need 'em. You weren't wearing those 5 rings anyway.

But it may be a little better than the Somali pirates that boarded the French Navy vessel. That was one big oops! http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline...el.html?csp=34
