why do so many sing as though they've been kicked in the nuts?

i mean it. creed sounds like it was kicked in the nuts... all that emo **** sounds the same way... i can't recall all of the bands names... and some of those r&b singers.... i mean, they really sound like someone walked up to 'em on the street, kicked 'em in the nuts, then drug 'em to a studio and held them at gun point... and then told them to sing....

is this supposed to be cool or something?

Why don't you stand over there, and another Fooster will demonstrate by kicking you in the nuts!

Creed? I thought what you were talking about are high pitched sounds. I don't see Creed songs as emo either. I saw them more as praising life and what positive was brought out through bad times.

Before you judge, you DO know the story of writer Scott Stapp of Creed, right?

From wikipedia

Creed is sometimes labeled a Christian rock band due to the fact that their first three albums focus on questions of faith, Christianity, and eternity. The band was never signed to a contemporary Christian music label, nor did it perform in Christian music venues or get any widespread regular play on Christian radio. However, the band's namesake creed itself denotes a popular Christian theological concept, of absolute individual belief, usually monotheistic. Also, themes within their musical titles such as "Higher", "My Sacrifice", "What's This Life For", "My Own Prison", "With Arms Wide Open", and "One Last Breath" contain allusion to Christian theology, though it hasn't been confirmed that the songs were meant to be Christian songs.

I think the guy from Creed has a pretty deep and resonant voice. Not anything I'd call chipmunk-like.

Tiny Tim is what comes to mind there. Perhaps Tim and other guys with that kind of voice are wearing the wrong kind of underwear. I think they picked up the speedos instead of boxers. There's about an octave of difference between the two.

Agreed. And the songs are far from emo.

Here is the song My Sacrifice, which I came to understand was after his fall from religion and his subsequent return to it where he finds himself and God.

My Sacrifice Creed

Hello my friend
We meet again
It's been a while
Where should we begin?
Feels like forever
Within my heart
Are memories
Of perfect love that
You gave to me
Oh, I remember
When you are with me
I'm free, I'm careless
I believe
Above all the others
We'll fly
This brings tears
To my eyes
My sacrifice

We've seen our share
Of ups and downs
Oh, how quickly life
Can turn around
In an instant
It feels so good to reunite
Within yourself and
Within your mind
Let's find peace there

'Cause when you are
With me
I'm free, I'm careless
I believe
Above all the others
We'll fly
This brings tears
To my eyes
My sacrifice

I just want to
Say hello again
I just want to
Say hello again

When you are with me
I'm free, I'm careless
I believe
Above all the others
We'll fly
This brings tears
To my eyes

'Cause when you are
With me
I'm free, I'm careless
I believe
Above all the others
We'll fly
This brings tears
To my eyes
My sacrifice
My sacrifice

(I just want to
Say hello again)
I just want to
Say hello again

My sacrifice

See, I always thought Creed epitomized the post-Eddie Vetter singing aesthetic, where you open your throat and sing as loudly, powerfully as possible

...but then clench your teeth tightly and never open them for the entire song.
