dear air freshener person...

around 5pm I plugged an air freshener in my apt hallway (returned from long weekend today: trash chute smells, company coming over tomorrow- trying to neutralize the smell, as the office isn't open today to take care of the issue). I honestly figured it would likely get stolen, but was worth a shot for a short-term fix.

However, at 9pm when I went into the hallway it was un-plugged, set on the floor with a note:
Quote:
Dear Air Freshener Person,
I appreciate your thoughtfulness in putting this air freshener here BUT this is not the solution to your problem, which I assume is some odor you do not like.

1) Unfortunately, air fresheners only cover up the problem; they do not solve the problem, if you feel there is a bad odor coming from, say the garbage shoot, you need to ask management to do something about this. Such as cleaning the area around the garbage shoot, fumigating, etc.

2)The hallway is a public space, which means you must be respectful of others. Due to the strong odor coming from this air freshener it is hard to breath & on a personal note, gives me a headache.

Please contact XX Management if you are having problems with the odors. They will help you identify where hey odor is coming from and what they can do to remidiate this odor. And honestly, you're paying big buck to live here so let them spend the money to fix the problem/odor correctly.

Thank you.
thank you, passive aggressive neighbor.

Your passive-aggressive neighbor needs to learn to spell "chute".

I hate air fresheners - they give me a headache. I could have written that note.

agreed. I think the door is even labeled "rubbish chute". right next to where it was plugged in.

there are 3 apartments near where the offending freshener was plugged in, and the rubbish chute. one of them being mine - why not just knock on the 2 doors? now they went and created a weird vibe amongst neighbors.

arti, hopefully they will address the problem before your visit, but there's another way in case.

Neighbor can't complain about what they can't see or smell.

artifice,

You might not want to hear this, but I think the note was 100% appropriate. There are fragrances that disrupt my breathing, and my asthma really isn't that bad. There are days in church where I simply can't sing the hymns without having my breath sucked away because of perfume. While this may actually improve the sound of the hymns, it definitely is not something I'd care to subject someone else to.

I would contact building management and see what they can do to correct the malodorous situation. I bet cleaning/disinfecting the chute periodically has not made it onto their routine maintenance calendar.

im not questioning the validity of the note, all considered it was tasteful. I'm more mystified they didn't just knock on the other 2 doors and confront the issue. the note was kind of random.

Ah, passive-aggressive notes. So amusing and yet so maddening.

I second Airwick's suggestion of the Neutra-Air. It works!

Go to your nearest auto-parts or hardware store and get some good epoxy glue. Then proceed to glue the air freshener into the receptacle.

The note-leaver is probably thinking, "There are only two other doors in this area - why didn't the air-freshener guy just knock on my door and ask if I would mind an air-freshener in the hallway? Now there's a weird vibe."

Oh sure, get all "practical" about it when we're all coming up with sweet plans for revenge...

you should buy all your neighbors an airfreshner gift and leave them on their doorsteps.

If only life were that easy, MV.

An unfettered Airwick is a dangerous thing.

I caught you a delicious bass. It will mask most odors. Do not, I repeat this, do not try to plug it in though, or you will really have an "odor issue" to deal with.

Just burn the apartment complex down. That should get rid of the smell.
