Iowa storms back from the Dead - 42-24!

    9-0... and the voyage continues.

"We're 9-0," Johnson-Koulianos said. "So whatever the BCS standings are, whatever the rankings are, we haven't lost a game. ... Critics right now, they don't want to believe in us, but you know what? We don't want them to believe in us.

"This is about Hawk Nation and everybody that's involved."

Considering they were playing Indiana at home, not impressed.

We Hawkeye fans don't really care what the rest of the country thinks.

Until there is a playoff - BCS = BS.

    Exactly.

Their test comes in two weeks.

Oh, I agree. But since I do not believe we will play in The Mythical National Championship Game anyway - even if we ran the table - it doesn't matter if we win or lose that game, because we are going to play in a decent bowl game regardless.

I also agree this heart attack method of winning the game is really screwing us in the human polls.

It takes heart, determination and grit to rally back and pull one out of your patoot.

And it makes for interesting football.

    Hat's off to Iowa.

I don't see the Vols playing on New Year's Day at the end of the season.

As I've said before, the only way the Big 10.1 is going to get respect again is to consistently win our OOC and bowl games against perceived "good" competition.

Thanks. We may not be the best team in the country, but our motto this season has quickly become "**** you, we're Iowa."

And seriously, I would say our fan base - me included - really could care less about playing in the BCS "Championship." We are just enjoying the ride however it ends.

We'll see. If UT wins out (they'll be favored in three of the last four games) the Peach, Cotton, or Outback Bowls are all possible (yeah, technically two of those aren't "January 1" bowls, but close enough).

Don't get me wrong. I want everyone who has a decent team - unless they're playing US, of course - to have a shot at a decent bowl game.

Boise State, TCU and Cincinnati are still looking to play a game against a first rate opponent. I think Iowa would trash any of the three of them.

    ...
It's been that way for years. Penn State finished the '94 season undefeated, and the polls game the title to Nebraska - partially because it was Osborne's last year coaching. Penn State's O line that year could have blasted Nebraska into the stone age, and their defense wasn't anything to sneeze at.

Boise State and TCU aren't BCS conference schools. Cincinnati is better than Iowa.

You have GOT to be joking. Seriously. Cincinnati has played a VERY soft schedule.

This is one of my favorite threads each week... look at the second one down the page.

I'm not familiar with this site, but according to its computer rankings, Cincinnati and Iowa are 63 and 57 in strength of schedule.

    Big difference.

It looks like Iowa has started its full court press on the national media. This email went out nationwide today....

GET THE CORRECT FACTS ON IOWA FOOTBALL

It seems popular for national pundits to criticize the University of Iowa football team these days. Many have said Iowa doesn’t belong on the same board with Florida, Texas, Alabama, Cincinnati, TCU, Oregon or Boise State. Iowa’s schedule has been rated the seventh toughest in the nation. Only one team in Big Ten history has beaten Penn State, Michigan State and Wisconsin on the road in the same season (Michigan did it in 1997). The two schools Iowa does not play in the Big Ten this year have the worst overall records (Purdue and Illinois) in the league. To say Iowa hasn’t played a strong enough schedule is to be totally misinformed. Please look at the facts below.

Number of opponents defeated that currently have winning records:

    1. Iowa 6

    2. Cincinnati 4

    TCU 4

    4. Oregon 3

    5. Boise State 2

Total won-lost records (and winning %) of defeated opponents:

    1. Iowa 44-31 .586

    2. Oregon 29-28 .508

    3. TCU 34-33 .507

    4. Cincinnati 30-36 .454

    5. Boise State 27-37 .421

Total won-lost records of opponents defeated in their home stadiums (i.e. road wins)

    1. Iowa 23-12 .657

    2. TCU 19-14 .575

    3. Cincinnati 21-20 .512

    4. Boise State 14-18 .437

    5. Oregon 6-10 .375

Number of defeated opponents ranked in current BCS Top 25:

    1. Iowa 3 (Penn State, Arizona, Wisconsin)

    Oregon 3 (USC, Utah, California)

    3. Boise State 1 (Oregon)

    4. Cincinnati 1 (South Florida)

    5. TCU 0

Won-lost records of remaining teams left on schedule:

    1. Iowa 17-10 .629

    2. Oregon 19-12 .612

    3. Cincinnnati 19-13 .593

    4. Boise State 20-22 .476

    5. TCU 15-17 .468

The only team on those lists that scares me is Oregon. I think we would dirtface TCU, Boise State, Cincy... no problemo.

I watched the USC@Oregon game, and I LOVED the look on Carroll's face when he stomped off the field. Sore loser!

You dismiss Cincinnati too easily. Brian Kelly is a great coach. He was at or near the top of my wish list last December when we were hiring.
