Hover text: Apparently Google assumes you're traveling during the ferry's normal operating hours. We lost two hours circling that damn lake (to say nothing of the Straw Man).

There are a couple books about a guy that started up in the Northeast and walked down to LA and then across and up to the PNW.
    http://www.peterjenkins.com/books_profile_AWAA.htm
That's the first book. The second book ,
    http://www.peterjenkins.com/books_profile_TWW.htm

I've read both, and they are well written and enlightening. Well worth the read, imo.

The chief sw architect at mapquest is a friend of mine.

One day, we were doing some yard work for charity and someone stopped to ask for directions. He replied that he didn't know how to get there. I called him a fraud.

Will there be places along the way to recharge my "Segway"?*

Well, I call it a "Segway" although WalMart keeps referring to it as "a stolen mobility scooter"

There's a guy walking from Ohio to Seattle with a dog and a donkey. I feel bad for the donkey. I had sent an e-mail to the guy, suggesting that he transfer his gear to a cart, since horses and donkeys are built for pulling, not carrying... looks like he just piled more stuff on to the donkey's load. I should have kept my mouth shut.

Why is he carrying such a massive load? That poor donkey is gonna have a u shaped back by the time that trips over.

I have no idea. He started out with a relatively easy load, and I think he's just added a bit here and there, and doesn't realize how MUCH MORE he's added on over the long term. He doesn't seem like the brightest guy, though. I think the cart was added because he now has a couple of other people walking with him... they should have just bought another freaking donkey.
