Where Do You Get Cheap mp3's?

I'm trying to download music for my new ipod and I'm having a hard time finding a good source. There is one place that I'm trying, but it won't accept my payment. Do any of you have any cheap music source suggestions?

I've had someone give me a torrent suggestion before, but those kind of confuse me. I'm looking for website suggestions. I tried GoMusicNow, but that's the one that won't accept my payment. Grrr.

I've gotten mp3s from gomusicnow.com for quite a few years now. Pretty sure it's a Russian site, but I've never got any nasty critters or my card compromised.

Edit: oops, didn't see your earlier post. I think I've gotten music from Borders.com at reasonable prices too.

That's the site I'm trying to use! I've tried paying three times without success. Durnit.

I'll try Borders, and see what they're like. Thanks!

I usually get my tracks from Amazon- they are generally 89 or 99 cents a track or 6 or 7 dollars for an entire album.

If you have the CDs, just rip 'em

I use CDex.

Lots of settings to muck with, but I recommend simply setting the bit rate at 192 (I believe the default is 128). The other settings can be left alone.

All of my couple thousand MP3s are ripped from CDs I own, so no help here.

I've seen "albums" on Amazon that are a hundred or more songs for seven to ten bucks. It's classical music, though, so not "new" in the least.

Some artists offer free digital downloads.

General Fuzz is one of my favorites.

Trent Reznor released Nine Inch Nails' "Ghosts I-IV" for free online(if you register
at relatively spam-free nin.com.)

It's about 2 hours of instrumental tracks that I would describe as rythmic techno-ambient,
pretty different from anything previously released.

http://ghosts.nin.com/main/order_options

Just select "free download" and follow the directions.

I hope you like it!

EDIT: oops, it's only Ghosts I thats free. Still worth a listen though.

I used to use allofmp3.com. It was the best MP3 site evar!!!! It was also Russian. Sadly, they weren't paying the artist royalties (escaping the law by being outside of U.S.) and ended up getting shut down.

I don't have any good sites any more.

If you are listening on your computer (and not transferring to MP3 player or similar), then try Pandora or Yahoo Music (Like Pandora but cost about $30/year and has no listening limits).

eMusic is great, http://www.emusic.com/promo/25free7d...MIAFFSID=%2ca1.
Its only 14 bucks a month and you get 30 songs, there are better packages, buts that all i need. Plus, you get one free song, of their choice, every day, they're ususally really good new artists. eMusic sometims doesnt have the big names, Like Micheal Jackson, but they have plenty. Finding and downloading is easy. Once you have downloaded a song you can download it as many times as you want at no extra cost, on any computer.

Oh, and you dont have to deal with the proprietary headache of iTunes.
