    E-book question

When purchasing an ebook, is the licensing restricted to the original device or is more of a subscription based, accessing a server with a secure log-in?

It's usually a reader file, and can be in many formats, from a PDF to Rocket Reader to Palm. Baen Books uses multiple formats on theirs, including Word and Richtext that are locked in read only mode.

Thanks Tom. I recently moved and can't find my Cultural Anthropology textbook. Since I made a 58 on the first test (I can drop this score), I really need a book. It's either spend too much for another at the school's store, or get another hardcopy online (can't wait that long) or rent one for 6 months. If I can access it via different computers (and not just my laptop), I'm giving the ebook a try.

You may have to download a specific reader program, but just keep it on a flash drive as well and you can install it on the other computers you use as well. The E-Book provider generally provides necessary software for free and open licensed. That or the use PDF, RTF or other crossplatform language, including plaintext.
