Siu Blue Wind,

I don't have a Slap Chop but I do have something almost exactly like it. In fact I believe the one I have is much easier to clean.

Mine came from Pampered Chef. I would try that option before I ordered "As seen of TV". I use it occasionally for chopping nuts. The best tip I have is chop on a cutting board instead of the cup it comes with.

Let me know what you do.

Best regards,

Mike

I originally saw that one you are talking about at a Pampered Chef party. It's probably of better quality, too. Maybe I should look into that one instead. Thanks for the reminder!

How do you like it?

Siu, given your unfortunate history with shiny sharp objects, I think that a Slap Chop is going to end up drawing blood.

But what if I use the cup??

I have plenty of super glue and duct tape.

And just for the record, I haven't gotten cut by my new Benchmade auto assist. Yet. And I've had it for a week and a half now. Uh huh. *shakes head* Or maybe longer than that.

You have lots of very sharp knives, Siu. Why would you need a Slap Chop?

Because it's a SLAP chop, Cbad. And you know I've been wanting to slap something lately. Maybe some of these will do:

I actually do have a Zyliss classic chopper. It largely gathers dust in the garage now. I used it most frequently to chop onions. Then I succumbed to the siren call of buying frozen chopped onions for 99 cents for a 12 ounce bag. My other chopping needs are met by my mezzaluna, Cuisinart food processor or my cooking knives. You have to ask yourself how much call you will have to use a chopper.

I think you need to get one, and photo document everything you can slap chop with it.

With that said, I'd go with the Pampered Chef version - their stuff is decently made. Some of the As Seen on TV stuff is ok (i.e. Pedi-Egg, etc.), but you never know. If you do want to try the actual thing, get it from a store like Target with a good return policy. The stupid As Seen on TV stores in the mall probably have a return nazi or something!

the rap is amusing (seen it before) but did you watch the one I posted? It's gut-bustingly hilarious!

The As Seen on TV Store is fantastic. They have a solid return policy and pull any product with a too-high return rate.

My most common knife I use in the kitchen is a Bowie knife. I make a lot of tex mex ish burritos, and lots of salads. Old Jim does the job, but that slap chop looks like it would make things fast and easy, I must admit.

My co-worker has a slap chop and he really loves it. Says it's great for chopping onions and such.

does it keep the onion fumes from your eyes a bit better? I refuse to cut onions as it irritates the frak out of my eyes.
