I just got reminded of how much a parent means to a child in terms of being a role model.
Setting examples for them on what is proper in terms of conducting their lives....how what they do affects others around them whether it be positive or negative. So many times people will say that a child is 'bad'. But the definition of being a bad child can be different to different children. It really depends upon their environment. What they see and what they learn. What they perceive as being a correct way to handle things vs a need to go for instant gratification and going on luck. Some kids just flat out don't understand what being bad is.
But some kids see what they don't want to become....
Granted I am not saying that all of a child's development is due to the parent. Sometimes there are circumstances that cannot be helped, such as poverty, education and not being able to get proper nutrition, among other things.
But do what you can as a parent. Give them your all.
Teach them to love, to respect, to do their best, to believe in themselves, to honour not only self but others as well. Show them what giving truly is, how to appreciate life and what they have. Teach them to accept mistakes as lessons and that failure does not mean that they are less of a person. Show them what hard work is and the rewards of such. Teach them about acceptance and tolerance and forgiveness. Give them the tools they need to build a productive life. And teach them how to use them.
Love your children.
