Google Maps Navigation for Android 1.6 (G-1) No hacking required!

Just download the latest version of Google Maps from the marketplace if you haven't already, ask for driving directions, and you're good to go. You will have to install speech synthesis if you haven't already, but Google Maps will prompt you for that when you try to use the feature. Enjoy!

Comes standard on Android 2.0/Droid. Even got an automatic update pushed today. And the Droid comes with voice synthesis, to boot.

I was looking at a coworker's one of these yesterday; He was moving it around showing (our office) from the GPS, and then (he must have done something but I wasn't paying attention) he tilted it up and it was showing the orientation of the constellations above us. Freaky.

Right, but G-1 won't run 2.0 without hacking. From what I can tell, the problem is a lack of memory -- there's enough for the OS, but not enough for the install process to run. I have no intention of upgrading my phone. The whole reason I got it was because of the keyboard and I consider the screen keyboards a major step backwards. They look cool and reduce the size of the unit, but a keyboard is too damn useful to do without.

Agree - that's why I went with the Droid (the Motorola Droid). It has the slide out keyboard in addition to the one on the screen.
