Weird crap your pets are addicted to

I recently found out teh kitteh is SO addicted to mint/menthol.

I remember mentioning on here that he ate tiger balm once--he licked it off me when I rubbed some on myself, and I was worried that it would have ill effects. Nope, no ill effects. Then I noticed that whenever I would put something even remotely minty or menthol-smelling--tiger balm, vicks, red flower oil, etc.--he would come sniffing it and trying to lick it off me. I chalked it up to him not liking the smell and wanting to lick it off me so I wouldn't smell bad to him.

Just recently I was eating some Ricola while lying in bed and he kept sniffing my breath and pestering me to give him some. I was like, "WTF, no, kitteh, you can't have any because this stuff is for hoomans. And besides I thought you didn't like mint so just shoo and don't sniff it." Then, a bit after that, I was using one of those Vicks menthol inhaler things (the kind you shove up your nostril to alleviate congestion) and he came up to me and wanted to sniff it too. I saw no harm in letting him sniff it, so I gave him the cover of the inhaler. Oh boy, teh kitteh acted like he was on catnip, which is funny, since he doesn't react to actual catnip. He was teetering, purring, sniffing it, licking it, and chewing a little on it, and he walked funny for quite some time after I let him sniff it. When I took it away to wash it so I could put it back on the container he tried to chase it and beg for more. I started calling him "Menth-head" after this.

So what weird stuff are your pets addicted to?

My old room mate's cat ate anything you put in front of him: lettuce, rice, rapini, spinch, any kind of meat, peeled grapes, chewed on tea bags, drank coffee, beer, whiskey, etc. He was addicted to popcorn and would put his whole head into a bowl of freshly made popcorn. He'd dive in and come out with a mouthful.

Lots of fun that cat.

Roommate's dog loves wires. Ate a subwoofer cable and quite a length of speaker wire a few weeks ago.

Yesterday she ate my laptop's AC adapter wire (buh-bye laptop). It was plugged in, and the scene smelled faintly of burning dog, so hopefully she learned her lesson.

I used to keep horses...one of them was addicted to lemons and molasses. I suppose the latter is understandable, being on the sweet side. Lemons, however were a surprise. This horse would eat them straight - rind and all.

I hope you realize some nuts are toxic to dogs, right?

Some they are only allergic to. You'd really do well to just avoid nuts all together with dogs. Keep that poochie happy and healthy.
