Your thoughts?

So my company is having a Holiday dinner and it's one of those all dress up fancy schmancy affairs. So fancy I probably have to wear a dress with high heels and make up. I usually don't go to it because most of the people end up drunk and become silly and I really don't want to see that. I don't drink myself so I'm always the sober one.

Anyway, my date for the evening wants me to dress up.....as an elf. My response was My date even offered to supply the outfit (costume?) and we BOTH would be elves.

Other co workers protested, saying that they wanted to see me in a dress. For those of you who don't know, I work in a warehouse and me being all prissy and foo foo is not what they are used to and totally is going to cramp my style.

So now the elf thing doesn't sound so bad. Because trust me...I don't want to hear cracks about me in a dress and make up the days following this party.

I would say it depends on what the elf costume looks like. One of those little red skirts with the fluffy white trim?

Yeah, is this sexy elf... otherwise, the tasteful little black dress is always good.

And, Siu, no matter what you do, you're going to get razzed about it. So do what you want to do, and screw 'em.

I'd go this route.

it's always interesting to see someone 'out of character', the 'gap' between regular you and costume you will be a real hit.

oh and pics please.

You can always wear the green ears with a Star Trek dress uniform. Instead of telling everyone "Merry Christmas" you can say "Live long and prosper".

Trust me, I know about "Command Performance" events.

Just wow 'em... and then act as if that's normal for you outside of work.

Though... the green ears do sound cute!

Siu, forge the Elf thing! You get dressed to the nines, hold your head up high and let them all eat cheese! With all due respect I think you would be smoking!

dress up, just keep it tasteful. Make sure you get a lot of pictures of the guys with the rent-a-dates (we actually had a guy who used to bring these way over his level ladies to the xmas party year after year. Finally got caught surfing an escort sight one year before the party...)

No Siu. Do not go as an elf. Unless your date is Dan, then it's kinda cute.

my two cents:

if you REALLY don't want to go, don't.

if you do go, why choose between an elf and clothing you clearly are not comfortable in? Either route will probably make you even less comfortable about going...who needs that stress?

I would say, take a day off, go shopping with a friend who's taste and opinions you trust and find something you really like and feel beautiful and comfortable in. (Yes, I know that's not easy to do in women's clothing stores). Then, I agree with what everyone else said. Go, and just rise above the teasing and shenanigans. That stuff will always be around, nothing anyone can do about it. But no need to feed into it.

and yes, share pics if you can (You want our opinions, right?)

Dan said that if it wasn't for work he'd be here in a heartbeat to take me. It's Laura Jean, my nutty best friend. She said she's making the outfits and she paid for the tickets. Imagine Ellen Degeneres running around in circles dancing and happy she got the tickets. That's Laura Jean.

well Timber it's like this, Siu is so damned good looking if she dresses up and goes to this party thing she will look so flaming hot that she just may put her co-workers into a deep coma, and if that happens she'd have to do EVERYONES job when she gets back the following work day!

BTW, I say go for it, I hate dressing up too but when I do look out! LOL! ;0)
