I inherited a motorcycle over the weekend...

A friend passed away and now I have his project bike, a 1995 Yamaha Virago.

Anyone know anything about this particular bike?

All it needs is a battery and throttle cable.

Get a battery and a throttle cable. What more do you need to know?

Drain and fill the oil and gas tank, change plugs, check brake fluid. Change the fuel filter. If this is a project bike it may have been a while since it was done.

I have an older(85) Virago Project bike that I've been tinkering with for a while. Lots of good info on all the Viragos here.... http://www.viragotech.com/ Lots of knowledgeable folks on their forums.

I'd prolly put that petcock back in the tank before I poured any gas in it.

Viragos are commonly used as training bikes in motorcycle classes because they are stable, light, and easy to ride. This would be perfect to learn on if you don't have riding experience.

I'd change the fork oil and check the fork seals too form the looks of the dust on it. And take the MSF course if you don't know how to ride it before you figure out that learning how to ride on your own motorcycle is a bad idea to save yourself from learning that lesson the hard way.

Viragos were bullet proof. That basic engine still lives on in the VStar.

I'm wondering if I could change the forks and handlebars - something more hog-like..
