I'm tired...

... of filling out applications. At least one or two a day and it's been months of this. Same crap, over and over and no one wants to give me the time of day, let alone a hire me. Talk about a downer.

put together a resume and stape it to the 'applications'. chances are they aren't asking you much that can't be covered on a resume without filling out all that BS repeatedly!

maybe it would look more professional, too?

I have some mad skills! But prostitution is still illegal...

I'm just trying to find something part time so I can go to school full time. School is priority and I don't have the energy for a startup and school.

That's a pretty good idea, arti.

I see the short term thought process has already been instilled.
carry on.

True, but the energy (to say nothing of capital of which I have roughly nil) is a huge investment and I barely have the energy for school.

fill out some of it nicely - like the name/address or something, and make sure its signed so it doesn't look like you're just stapling a resume and applying to every job in the world (even if you are!)

UA at your school there should be some recruiting programs and job fairs. Surely there must be a help wanted board or listing in relation to the student union. Employers who post at school sites are well aware that students are part time workers and go there specifically for student services.

What Sui said. Plus, depending on your FAFSA, you might be eligible for work-study. The CC I go to offers it, and they cap the maximum work hours to no more than 20 hours a week. The pay rate sucks, but you can do your homework while on the job w/o running the risk of being fired, unless you are a total dumb@$$ and spend your entire time on Foo.

Merely attaching a resume to an application will NOT go over well with anyone who wants to make sure you can read & write. I used to send college grads a-packin' when they were too educated to fill out the job application AND submit a resume. Jobs for which you fill out an application rarely NEED the resume, anyway, as they are not career type positions, so FILL OUT the freakin' application, and do it neatly & completely!

Meanwhile, reassess your job skills and think outside the box RE your own business... can you tutor HS or mid-school kids? can you exercise local pets? can you shop for the elderly? can you companion for the elderly in chunks of time? there are alot of things people will pay for - in cash - that aren't considered "real" jobs! People in rural areas will pay $10/hr for weekly cleaning - what's the rate in your area?

And, yeah - check out the college work study jobs. And if you were employed in 2008 but NOT in 2009, stop by the FA office to see if they will adjust your aid to reflect your lack of employment in your aid package - it's something a college FA office CAN do but is not required to do. Bring cookies or brownies.

Heh. Full time school is completely exhausting. A four class workload is kicking my ass.

My daughter experienced the same thing. She applied for 7 jobs in 2 weeks (basic minimum wage jobs at retail stores) and only got one callback. She finally just got hired at a place where her friend works. The friend helped get her set up for the interview.

Hang in there, UA.

Keep working at UA... I hope you found a great job soon, or at least something that could pay the bills. Good luck!

.
I think it depends on what you're applying for. A resume may be a overkill for the local mc donalds, but it would stand out among the 30 other applications they received that week. Plus, its neat and quick to scan. I'd say of the part-time jobs I've had, a small handful were because my app stood out in some way.

Once I received a 3-page resume stapled to an application for a girl applying to work at a coffee shop. THAT was overkill. what 19-year old has a 3-page resume, anyway?
