The Dog Is Dead.

Its a good thing he has a comfy couch to lie on.

Oh, I think he just twitched. So he isn't dead after all.

It's a ruse, a setup, the oldest trick in the dog book. Cool huh! Dogs can't read and they have their own book.

I was two seconds from shooting my dog Vic dead today, and thats no BS! We were sitting in front of the TV having chips as a snack, we gave Vic a few (as we always do) and he munched them up while wagging his tail, I get up and go to the kitchen to get a drink when my daughter calls for me, so I go over to see what she wants and she tells me that Vic bit her on the face! I take a look and I find a small scratch on her chin and a mark on her neck next to her ear! I look around and see Vic sitting in the corner with that "I know I did something wrong" look on his face! I run upstairs to the bed room, grab my Glock, load it, and walk down stairs to where Vic is, my daughter jumps up and says,"No dad, it was my fault! I gave him some chips then I gave him a hug! I guess he thought I was trying to take his chips!" I'm still thinking he shouldn't have reacted that way 'cause I thought I taught him better? but I guess instinct must have gotten the best of him, he's now set to have his testicles removed! he will no longer be fed snacks, and he will be in a muzzle when he's around the family! screw that! I love my buddy Vic but I'll put one right in his head if he hurts anyone in my family!

My 6 month old Rottie and I were on my lawn playing and the neighborhood girl came rollerskating with metal skates right toward me then jumped onto the lawn, stumbled into me, knocked me down and fell on top of me. Thaddeus jumped on her and nipped her in the arm. She freaked, I freaked and Thaddeus got this look on his face like "uh oh". After making sure the girl got to the hospital, I had to decide what to do with him. I went to the girl's father and offered to put him down. He told me that it was up to me and that he owned three Akitas himself.....he knows how dogs can be protective, especially if they came quick and with noise.

I decided to give him one more chance. If he messed up again, he would go straight to the vet.

He never snapped at or nipped at anyone after that for the rest of his 12 years with me. Well except for the one guy that really did jump at me to grab me and didn't see Thaddeus on the other side of the brick divider......

To the OP, that's funny! My 2 older dogs sleep on the couch. The little MinPin Jumps up on my computer chair to sleep there and once they start sawing logs they look dead. I say, "oh-oh!" and grab them by the feets as if to drag their carcasses to the front curb and they wake up with a "WTF?" look on their faces. Except for the MinPin, he'd let me drag him anywhere. I bust out laughing.
That's why I had to get out of animal control. I seen too many good dogs getting put down for doing what they were supposed to do. They guard the property, Kill Them! They bark at people, Kill Them! They mingle with the family and OOPS! bark during the game, Kill Them!
You never, EVER put your hand near a dog's food! It's not a question of who's in control, it's the fact that it's the dog's food and he has a right to protect whats his. Neutering a dog, while a good idea, won't make him less aggressive either, it just gives him one less thing to worry about.
Humans are such ****s!

My pit bull is on the couch now looking like he is dead too, but I can hear him breathing! LOL

That dog Vic needs trained better.....My dog is never food aggressive at all. I always give him a treat and hug him while he is eating, also I make him to tricks everyday before feeding time. He still has his nads!

I'm really glad that I didn't put him down. The reason I went to the father was because that was the responsible thing to do. Usually animal control would be called and he would be taken away immediately. If he ever bit again I would have taken him to the vet because I had already told the hospital it was my dog who bit her and that is one mark on his 'record' (my name and address) as having a vicious animal. Second time they take him away and do it. I'd rather be the one, not some stranger who will do it in a cold area in a 'move 'em in, move 'em out' atmosphere.

He sure ended up being a sweetheart though. I miss Thaddeus.

+1 Big_e. Though I don't exactly condone dogs that bite while eating, it is the owner's responsibility to train him differently. Major, at 90lbs, will be happy to remove one of your appendiges if you try and take his food. He won't remove MY finger, nor my dads, and probably not anyone in the family (maybe a nip, but nothing violent), but he wasn't trained otherwise. He came from what seems to be a very food-competitive litter, and was very possessive. It took several bites until finally at 2 years old he realized how things went. He's rarely ever around kids, and he does well to avoid them, and tolerates them well when he's forced to, but no way in hell will I ever give him something he'll be possessive over when anyone but immediate family is around. If there were children in the family, his training would be different.

If you see someone charging your loved one, are you gonna make sure it's an attacker and let them get partially through their assault before you settle things, or knock 'em on their ass right off the bat and ask questions later?? If you charge my daughter, even if you were only jogging by and I mis-read the situation, I'd rather offer a handshake and a beer then deal with possibly what could have happened if you did intend harm. Even if it went to court, totally worth my daughter's safety. Thats just how dogs think. Protect first and foremost, ask questions later. Like good parents...

OK, that was funny. I've often said the same thing about our dogs over the years. I remember a few occasions with our past dog who was getting quite old. I'd actually go feel her belly to see if she was still breathing. She was. Just extremely comfy on the couch.
