A girl just took my son out...

First time I experience such a thing. I came with the kids and like 15 minutes later, the front door neighbor girl came in asking me for permission to take my son to the park. My boy was drooling so I said OK. I can see the park from my backyard anyway. But this feels weird.

No girls ever went home to take me out... my son is already ahead of me at something.

Perhaps. My first shot at doing something 'grown-up' was as an 8 yr old. The girl was 12 and moving the next day. Nothing happened, as I had not a clue at time. But thanks to MTV, eight yr olds would be familiar with the mechanics, even if they didn't fully understand.

I have raised 5 daughters and learned that the rules have changed since 1964, when I was 10. Today is referred to as a "Teachable Moment." Keep it simple and to the point. It might open some doors that surprise you.

OK, I'll ask the big question, did she bring him back? or did she move him in to her place?

My parents always encouraged healthy relationships with the opposite sex. In jr high I developed many same-sex friendships and would go to movies and concerts with boys, and mixed groups of guy & gal friends. There was a distinction between these friends (who I wasn't interested in dating, despite what the 14 year old boy may have thought, haha) and didn't have my "first date" until I was 16. Maybe it was that they brainwashed me into "you can't date until you're 16" but frankly, I was't really interested in the guys I knew (or in dating in general) until then.

Its good to keep a healthy eye on their friendship (and that may be all it is), intuition should tell you when its time for "the talk". I'd be concerned about planting ideas in his head before he's even had them by having the talk too early!

Yes, she bring my boy back after half an hour. He went right to his computer and didn't lock himself in his room so I'm guessing it was OK.

They did stop at her house before getting here, to get water. But according to my son (story he tells with much disappointment) she told him to wait outside.

Heh, when I was in 3rd grade (8 years old?) I had a girlfriend and we did stuff I didn't do again until I was 23 years old...

ETA: That sounds worse than I meant it, but I am not going to edit it.

One of our 14 year old (yup, the last two are twins) came home with a boy who outweighs me and after about a half hour headed upstairs, to show him her room. That came to a quick end. Now I can just say, sorry, ReubenX says that the boys must stay outside. That line will work.

I think you have a bit more time before the talk is necessary. It was not too long ago that I was that age...I'm 18 now. The first time I saw porn was when I was 10, but I don't think you need to worry about talking to your kids until they are 12. 8th Grade or highschool seems like the stepping stone to doing the nasty for some people. Some of us never really received much of a sex talk, but looked things up on our own. Get a reliable website, tell your kids to read some info on it...

Big deal. I used to knock on everyones door when I wanted to play. When I hit the boys, I know their mothers did not run to have "the talk" with them. They were probably happy someone wanted to free them of having their child in the house.

I have two girls. Stupid boys are coming to my house all the time. I answer with a pair of brass knuckles on my fist.
"Whatcha need!?!"
"Is ..."
"Speak up boy! I ain't got all day. I'm cleaning my revolvers."
"Can I ..."
"Can you what? Clean my car? Cut my grass? Polish my combat boots?"
"No sir, I was wondering if So-and-so was home?"
"Yes she is." <Slams door>

This is why I like Foo so much. It's educational, entertaining, and sometimes inspirational.

I wonder if it's too late to ask Santa for some guns and knuckles...
