Great Cat Toys

Our cat, Annie, got a Radio Controlled mouse for Christmas. Let me tell you, much hilarity has ensued. It gets about 3 minutes play foe a 3 minute charge. It's best if you use a slick linoleum or tile floor, though (Hardwood takes scratching from the claws. ) It's great watching the Fred Flintstone or Wile E Coyote takeoffs on the tile.

We brought Cat's toys with us although she never uses them. She's not a playful cat. Ceara, on the other hand, has taken a great interest in the bird call feathery toy that we brought. He tosses it up in the air. It's awesome to watch him. He'd be a great cat to have if we had rats or mice.

Thankfully my cat is a "cheap date". I have tried buying expensive toys but he loves my pony tail bands (Pony-O's) and plastic drinking straws... yes he's weird (he's male, 'nuf said!).

Lately Ming is into straws and she loves this one cat toy I buy her (so she can kill it) - it's a furry mouse that hangs down from the top of a door frame on a stretch cord. I've been in my computer room and see her backing - pulling the mouse taught - then she let's it go and she goes and gets it and does it again.

However lately - it's the foil balls. And I have a tile kitchen floor so that just adds to the fun. Now she's become a little fetchy cat - and retrieves the balls and lays them at my feet so I can shoot them again. This goes on for a while - till I see her head to another room where she's laying there catching her breath.

This one toy - is one to be avoided. I even the company - never heard from them. This is the toy that Ming ran by and the little wires that hold the individual toys on - has a small curved "fish hook" thing where the toy attaches - that "hook" even though it was tight - it still was not a closed unit and so Ming got that in her eyelid and would have most likely lost an eye had I not been there.

I am my cat's second favorite toy...the only thing she likes better than rough-housing with me is stalking and ambushing her favorite toy: Cheri's feet.

She does like the laser pointer I have too...which comes in handy when I need to let the wounds on my hands and arms heal.

piece of string or inner tubing (washed) tied to an unwound clothing hanger.

much like a fishing rod, minus the hook.

the real nice part about the toy is you can just stand there and let the springy hanger and string do all the work.

Sakima and Jade love ping pong balls decorated by Sharpie pens and thrown into the bath tub. Laser pen never fails either. Same with hair ties.

But here's MY favorite cat toy:

Laser pointers make not only great cat toys but you can annoy the neighbors with them by shinning it in their windows. I'm not allowed to play with them any more by the way but that doesn't mean others can't.

An empty paper grocery bag is good for about a half hour of feline entertainment.
Those plastic rings from the top of plastic milk jugs make great pounce/swat/pursuit toys.

when I was younger I had a rubber/foam ball with an elastic cord attached to it, so it was similar to a yo-yo but no skill required. A friend's cat loved that thing.

What kind of cats are those spotted ones? They're beautiful. I like the black and white one too (I just adopted one with similar markings.)

Thank you very much. The spotted kittens are our new Bengals. They are a fairly new breed recognized by TICA. We originally rescued 2 Bengals and one recently passed so we got 2 more, though the 2 new ones were not rescue animals. The grey/white cat is a Main Coon mix which accounts for his large size.

They make a glove with strings and feathers hanging off the fingers that Annie loves.

and of course, she likes to play with the model train.
