The most beautiful love song I've ever heard.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuq7RYQ8Wa0

Yes, I understand
that every life must end, uh huh
As we sit alone,
I know someday we must go, uh huh
Oh, I'm a lucky man
to count on both hands, the ones I love
Some folks just have one
Yeah, others they got none, uh huh
Stay with me,
Oh, Let's just breathe

Practiced all my sins,
never gonna let me win, uh huh
Under everything,
just another human being, uh huh
Yeah, I don't wanna hurt,
There's so much in this world to make me bleed (believe)
Stay with me,
You're all I see

Did I say that I need you?
Did I say that I want you?
Lord, if I didn't, I'm a fool, you see
No one knows this more than me
As I come clean I...

Wonder every day,
as I look upon your face, uh huh
Everything you gave,
and nothing you would take, uh huh
Nothing you would take.
Everything you gave.

Did I say that I need you?
Oh, did I say that I want you?
Lord, if I didn't, I'm a fool, you see
No one knows this more than me
As I come clean I...

Nothing you would take.
Everything you gave.
I hope until I die I...
Meet you on the other side.

In this particular vein, I like Emerson Lake & Palmer's "Lucky Man".

Most of the 'love songs' that hit for me are the painful ones:

"Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)", Journey
"Still Lovin' You", Scorpions

Stuff like that. But this PJ song is a good one.

Hard to beat a Burt Bacharach song...

Unless it's with a Jimmy Webb song...

personal fave is probably "love song" by elton john off tumbleweed connection but i won't argue with the
dusty springfield or herb albert offerings in post #5. this, of course, does not include al green's body of work?
'cause if it does, forget the song-how about the whole album(s)? side two of both atlantic crossing by rod the mod
stewart and veedon fleece by van the man morrison are both pretty good for setting the mood too. getz/gilberto
by stan getz & joao gilberto (the one with "girl from ipanema" & "corcovado") does not suck either.

I feel that its hard to go past Jerry Rafferty's 'Right down the line' as one of the best love songs of all time.

I like it. Quite haunting.

I'm very impressed with E. Vedder's recent song writing.

Wichita Lineman is an amazingly beautiful song, simple, elegant, timeless. The studio recording is great, much better than that live performance.

That's my favorite Bacharach song. Not for nothing, but great song writing transcends musical genres, eras, generations. A great song in 1950 or 1970 is still great 40 or 50 years later, and a lame song still blows. Evidence of the latter is rampant on today's Billboard 100 of course.

Oh well. There's always some good song writing out there someplace. As demonstrated by Mr. Vedder's recent work.

Why did they ruin a great album like The Beat Of The Brass with a song like Talk To The Animals?

Back in the 80s my paernts bought me a hifi system with one of those new CD players. The sales guy threw in an Elkie Brooks CD, and the first song on it was Nights in White Satin. The start of that song blew me away.

I've still got a trove of Moody Blues albums as well a zillion others tucked away somewhere. Now if I could only run down a stylus for my old turntable.

A true love song:

I WALK THE LINE.
I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time.
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine,
I walk the line

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine,
I walk the line

As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I've known proves that it's right
Because you're mine,
I walk the line

You've got a way to keep me on your side
You give me cause for love that I can't hide
For you I know I'd even try to turn the tide
Because you're mine,
I walk the line
