What a loss...creator of the one song that single-handedly destroyed disco. I'll always love him for that. RIP.

    Sad.

Let's not forget to appreciate the Vapors while they're still around to feel the love:

I have "Get The Knack" on vinyl as well.
They were on a summer show of one-hit wonders three or four years ago, and one of the few bands on the show that consisted of its entire original lineup. They played a blistering version of "My Sharona" that was well-received by the studio audience.

When the song came out it was trashed by critics and other artists. Basically they were jealous that a small band playing on the strip suddenly had a mega hit from a song simple enough to be a nursery rhyme. I thought it was similar to to Kinks tunes, with that repeating riff. It's a classic.

    RIP

I saw the Knack play live at a park concert in Woodland Hills 2 summers ago. WH was Doug's home town, so needless to say the crowd was very supportive.

Also from 1979, a song and band that helped nail the coffin shut on disco, which sucked then and now.

I recall a lot of people disliked the obvious Beatles homage, but lots of people loved them as well. They were never favorites of mine, but yeah, that was a fun song for sure.

It used to be too common to see people die of cancer before 60...oncology has improved, but this is a sad reminder it's still an evil nasty illness.
