Someone remind my WHY this is the MOST IMPORTANT news story across the world.

Things like this make me worry for the future of the human race.

Tiger Woods is not a man in any way shape or form, he had it all and still wasn't satisfied, what a dick.

This is just the first step in the "healing" for Tiger and all those he hurt, me included.

Now, since he won't be getting laid any time in the foreseeable future -- by his wife or his fckbuddies -- he's probably going to face the urge to masturbate.

We, and his sponsors, have a right to know if he has masturbated, and more importantly, if he has been having impure thoughts.

As fans, and as people who model our roles on athletes, we have a right to know.

That's a pretty harsh judgement. A man / woman is defined by their actions. Woods made some seriously bad errors in judgement, however he seems to understand the severity of his mistakes and is taking steps to correct his behaviour ... at least, that's how it appears. Time will tell.

To play the devil's advocate, most people don't have the tools to deal with the excesses and stress that celebrity comes with. I've always seen celebrity, especially since the onslaught of the modern paparazzi, as equivalent to being sentenced to a luxury prison. There is no amount of money that would convince me to give up my anonimoty and privacy that I currently enjoy. We've been lucky to witness golf's most brilliant player during our lifetime, yet we seem to take great pleasure in his misfortunes when he falls down.

Tiger is a gifted golfer and a world-class screwer, as have been many of his predecessors.

The only thing that has been "damaged" and needs to be "healed" is his role as a mega-monster-marketing-machine for the money-grubbing likes of Nike, Buick, etc etc etc.

I don't give a crap what goes on in his hotel rooms or in his bedroom at home. Nobody else should care either.

When the hell did professional golf become about "family values"?

Frankly, all this hand-wringing, tearful concern is so effing phony, it makes my hair hurt.

This is pro golf:

Agreed.

Keep thinking about the child stars that never had a childhood or ended up being druggies or losers later on in life.

When his sponsor's started to see their company's stock value drop. As much as you may not like it, the "mega-monster-marketing-machine" is heavily dependent on the public's impression of his values off the golf course as much as on the course.

Yes, well, that's pretty much the point of my post... the part you grayed out.

All the hand wringing and crocodile tears are about money, the loss thereof.

One of the most cryingest, tearful people in the front row of the news conference was the nike rep. Good lord, do these people have no pride?

I have no doubt that there would be other new women willing to play with Tiger's putter, if for no other reason than to provide sleazy details to a tabloid or to write a "tell all" book later on. Of course that wouldn't be an issue if there wasn't a market for it.

Tiger has painted himself into a corner. What a wuss. No matter what manner of women come his way in the future, he can't touch them. He's made himself a sexual pariah.

He should have settled for losing some sponsors, and the wife that he obviously didn't have much on the ball with, and he should have focused on his strengths: golf and sex.

He could have probably gotten sponsorship deals with Magnum Condoms and Viagra for starters. Then some beer or booze manufacturer, then some line of clothing.

Every man wants to be a good golfer and get laid 24/7. Talk about Tiger's potential to be a marketing machine, and missed opportunities. Sheesh.

In a stunning worst-case scenario, Tiger has given up his ability to ever get laid again, he's never going to be the family values golfer again, and the world of potential marketing opportunities aimed at young and middle aged men is gone... poof.

what an egomaniac. Why should we even care? why do we need a public apology? Just go ahead, fix your marriage and continue with your therapy. Why drag us into your 12 step drivel.
