What was your favourite Olympic moment?

Now that it's over, what were your top 3 moments of the Olympics?

Mine were:

Joannie Rochette's short program skate after losing her mother a few days prior. What an amazingly strong individual!!!

I also loved the 500 metre short track men's final where Hamelin won gold by crossing the finish line basically backwards.

Jon Montgomery's walk through the Olympic village where a random girl passed him a pitcher of beer. Classic!!!

Alfster 02-28-10 06:46 PM

To add a non-Canadian athlete, I've got to add Shaun White's absolute dominance over the halfpipe field. Unbelievable.

jsharr 02-28-10 06:49 PM

Night Train ruling on the sliding course. Gold for for DeMond in the Nordic Combined. Jacobellis falling yet again was horrible, but it was a great teaching moment for my boys. Shaun Whites last run on the half pipe was outrageous.

The Canadian crowd singing Oh Canada to the men's curling team near the end of the gold medal match was moving for me.

Nobody cares.

Soon the Mets will start playing and the True Futility will commence.

Connell 02-28-10 06:52 PM

Until an hour or so ago, I think I would have said that Sean White's performance in the half-pipe was my highlight of the games. All the snowboarders were great but he was just head and shoulders above the rest.

However, having just watched the men's hockey final, I think it will be a long time before I get that involved in a game for which I'm essentially a neutral fan.

I also think it's fair to say that once the opening ceremony is over tonight, it will be a long time before NBC is on again in my house.

how about Fabian Cancellara storming back to get silver in the road race, and crush the competition in the ITT.

jyossarian 02-28-10 07:14 PM

My favorite is when that guy did that thing that was inspirational. I'll never forget it.

jdon 02-28-10 07:25 PM

Alexandre Bilodeau's hug from his brother Frederic.

Sean White's halfpipe.

The men's hockey gold, the hard way.

Vanoc's outstanding job, even though it lost it's chair Jack Poole. He was an outstanding man who truely cared for the Olympic games and British Columbia.

Awe hell, It was all great! Good show BC and all involved.

The hockey was good...I hate hockey, but taking out all the TV timeouts and just playing with no fights and less penalties actually made for a better game that was easier to watch. I liked the Snowboard and Ski cross to watch

I tend to favor the games that have people neck and neck to win (Ski cross, speed skating, etc), not just against a clock (bobsled, downhill, etc). God save me from things that are scored like the figure skating...the Areials were ok though, if you have to score it let it be over in 20 seconds.

It just seems more like a "sport" if you need to look over your shoulder and beat the guy behind you.

Agree with everything that's been said so far; all good stuff.

I was really fascinated when they showed the handshakes at the end of the men's gold medal hockey game. Ryan Miller, defeated U.S. goalie and MVP of the tournament, and Lindy Ruff, assistant coach of Canada and Miller's head coach on the Buffalo Sabres, had an extended conversation. You could see Lindy pulling Miller close in a hug and talking to him. You see all kinds of guy-hugging in sports to celebrate victory, but seeing a comforting hug and (presumably) words of consolation or encouragement is pretty rare. It was almost as if they were family.

Bob Beamon setting the long jump record in 1968 in Mexico City.

jimblairo 02-28-10 11:42 PM

Slovenian cross-country skier Petra Majdic who fell into a gully on a training run and broke four ribs and collapsed a lung.

She sucked up the pain and competed in four sprint races the same day and won a bronze medal. She had to be helped up onto the posium.

Good example of how the mind can block out pain.

She is one of two recipients of The Terry Fox Award.

This Olympics? Toss up.

Shaun White putting on a real show when he already had the gold wrapped up.
Having a eligible bachelor win the men's figure skating. How long has it been since that happened? :p

I agree with both moments but not certain Evan is a elible bachelor - i.e. likes girls - maybe his act... for now.

I also like it when the Canadian PAIRS figure skaters won. A real moment for them and all of Canada.

Personal favorite? Any time Bode Miller was on the slope.

This was one of my favorites. I met the woman...freaking AMAZING.

John Montgomery in the village was intense, I was there...the guy is simply...a guy. No hype nothing

Hockey game yesterday standing in village square truly being canadian. The most incredible moment, potentially, of my life. 2-1...20seconds to go...the entire crowd...even americans just paused for 5 seconds...no sound from THOUSANDS of people. I have never had that pure sense of..."what the ****...this just turned into the best game ever"...

To be honest...being part of the olympics has been inspiring...if any of you have never been to one, spend the money and do it. I am considering volunteering at one in the future. An amazing 17 days of my life.

Me too...we are all tired from long days and longer nights. Partying with the world has been painful and fun :)
