I bought a new (slightly used) laptop and...

I just LOVE this thing! Now I have had several laptops in my life, but this one definitely is
my favorite so far. It's a Lenovo x301. 13" of wide screen in a thin factor frame WITH a DVD
(unlike the Apple Air) and only 3.3 lbs! I doubt this would be considered a high end gaming machine, but for dsaily use and road trips, it is the perfect laptop! It is also the first Lenovo
product I have ever owned, and I am VERY impressed with it.

The more time I spend on this thing the more I like it! Backlit screen, plenty of "fast" in it. I may update to the SDD in the future just to eliminate all moving parts. The HD has a "shock" feature where if you move the unit, it shuts off until you stop movong it to prevent disk failure or corruption. This is just amazing for the price point of roughly $1100 new (without SDD)

My daughter and I both got Toshiba T135's for Christmas. They are similar to the Lenovo, with low voltage dual core processors, 13" screen, thin and light, long battery life. These machines are more powerful than netbooks but not much larger or more expensive. Actually this class of machine kind of popped up out of the blue, with all of the major manufacturers having a model that fits. Acer, ASUS, hp, Toshiba, Dell and Lenovo all make similar models.

It also should have a TPM chip which means you can use BitLocker with it. Set BitLocker, save the recovery keys to a usb flash drive that is stored in a safe place, and don't worry about it.

    Neat.

I've been getting ready for a year to order my first laptop. If I saw someone carrying one I'd want to talk to them about it. To my surprise most of them had never heard of lenovo.

A major sticking point was that lenovo.com won't deliver to Canada, and lenovo.ca had more than a $1000 price difference, even though our dollar is nearly even now. Finally I phoned up the .ca and asked if there was anything I could do about this. They adjusted about 2 thirds of that so at least I'm not paying quite so much more.

So I ordered my dream machine 2 days ago and it will take about a month to come in. It's a beast of a laptop, over 10 pounds, but that's my kind of machine. Don't really want one of those wimpy little city folk laptops. SSD, 17 inch.

One thing I really want to try out is the trackpoint. I've only pushed it about 10 times on someone's laptop, but the second time I pushed it, I liked it better than the touch pad. How do you like trackpoint Mr Markets, or anyone else who has used it? Just since there are people here who know what a lenovo is.

Actually it's not true at all that they are ugly. They have a bunch of net books and a couple of lines that are really sleek and stylish. They weren't what I was interested in though so I hardly payed attention to them.

Personally I prefer a laptop that looks like a business box. Don't want somebody thinking they can pick up classier girls or guys if they rip mine off.

Same thing with bikes. I ride old 10 and 12 speeds. Don't have to worry at all about an intensive effort to rip them off. Definitely has it's advantages.
