Once upon a time, I posted a thread about how Led Zeppelin ripped off less fortunate musicians by taking credit for their work. Unfortunately, it was mistaken for a parody thread and merged with a couch_incident thread and lost forever to the abyss.

That said, years ago I had made the mistake of buying Physical Graffiti on Cassette instead of vinyl. I listened to it so much that I began to wear out the tape. Then the cassette housing wore out. So I took the tape out of a new blank tape and put the Led Zeppelin reels in it.

Interestingly, I was in Midtown at a beading store with the GF this afternoon and some Led Zep song, a "slow blues" with Plant screeching was on the speakers. Ugh. Page is such a horribly bad, sloppy, and un-inventive guitar player. LZ is a case, just like the Stones, Beatles, Aerosmith, of a band manufactured by corps to make money. Its shocking how I can on a given Friday or Saturday night find a cover band around here with FAR better musicians playing in it than any of the idiots that played in those bands.

someone completely misses the point of bands like LZ, Aerosmith, and the Beatles. They may not have been the best musicians, but they changed the face of music....Elvis Presley is the same way....no Elvis what would be on the radio? Patsy Cline?

When you're talking Zep, you HAVE to talk about The Song Remains The Same, that oh-so-visceral concert that I saw in theater, and now have again on my mp3.

Studio albums leave a lot to be desired with these guys.

That said, Heart put out a live album a little while back that covered some Zep songs, and outdid TSRTS. But then, I'd listen to Ann Wilson for a month before I'd listen to Plant for four hours. Thankfully, there's a lot of good instrumental on TSRTS.

Can't say I'm a follower of any group or band, though; like some here, some there; anything from War to Nightwish and Halestorm will get my attention if the song is any good.

LZ is so overplayed that there are few songs I can listen to anymore. Fool in the Rain, The Song Remains the Same, and that's about it. As for dubbing The Beatles corporate manufacturing, that's just nutty. They did suffer from having a producer, but that's the worst you can say about them in that regard.

Here's a great drums-only clip of John Bonham laying down the awesome Fool in the Rain shuffle.

That guy could play.

One of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs is the extended version of No Quarter on that album. Bonzo's drum solo, "Moby Dick" is great as well. I like all their albums, but my current faves are:

- In Through The Out Door
- Led Zeppelin
- The Song Remains The Same

When someone allows their music to be used to shill Cadillacs, they lose the right to be considered serious musicians.

But even apart from that, LZ have been played to death.
