I keep trying to keep fish but they keep dying. So I am just going to put a little turtle in the extra tank I have.

Salmonellas not problem unless the person keeping the turtle is a slob, a turtle tank must be kept very clean, which means a filter and weekly to biweekly partial water changes, and a true turtle needs a basking area where it can get its body totally dry (to prevent shell rot) when it needs to, not one of those piece of crap "Turtle Islands" that pet shops sell, and they also need vitamins and minerals added to their food at least once a month, and while we're on the subject of food I'll go ahead and say that the prepared turtle food you buy at the pet shop is total crap and will just help speed up the little guys death, a true water turtle needs fresh greens and meats on a daily basis usually in the form of fresh fish and earthworms to stay healthy (I'm sure the OP knows the differance between the two) as does any other turtle or tortoise, what I'm saying is this: if you couldn't keep fish alive I suggest you don't get a turtle.

You seem to know about this stuff.

Can a parakeet be infected by a spirochete?
