questions on studying in the US

First of all, I am an international student, I have never stayed in US for over a month. I am now considering Diablo Valley college as a way to enter the top university in the US. The quality of the college is apparently nice, but I wonder whether there will be a lot of gang over there. Also, can anyone suggest me a residential apartment (as cheap as possible)? Last but not least, please leave me some comments about that school. By the way, do anyone of you park a bike cost over $3000 in campus?

Thanks a lot.

OK...

1) Do not let 3k bike parked at campus (or anywhere else). Get beater bike... cheaper to replace when stolen.

2) DVC, cool, what campus?

3) You can look for apartments using online sites, google "find apartment in <xyz>" and that tells you an idea of how much is the rent.

4) You can also google "apartment ratings" and get some sites reviews of specific apartment complexes... great to check if there are too many horror stories about the place.

Besides that, there are lots of CA residents among these forums but most are sleeping now. Chime in later. Good luck.

Thanks for your information, RubenX.
I am now considering homestay as a choice. To be frank, I am those who have never touch housework. But you know, my biggest concern is safety. I don't want to be raped (except hot ladies) or shot suddenly.

I have lived in Texas all my life and have never been raped or shot suddenly. The chance of either or both occuring to you are very slight, seriously.

On a serious note, this is Foo. You might really want to post in the Northern California Regional Subforum. They will be able to give you better insight I would believe.

Irrelevant - Texas is not part of the US.

Studying? Hah.. you'll learn very quickly that the way to get through school in the US is to whine and complain about how you deserve A's regardless of how hard you work, and having your parents call the school and threaten to sue them for damaging your self esteem if they don't give you a 4.0 every term.

I got the memo. Evidently we are also supposed to go out and purchase a duck. Every time we succeed it gets nuttier and nuttier last time it was all wearing our hats in doors. No one stopped doing that though.
