It's called pareidolia. The tendency to interpret a vague stimulus as something known to the viewer; such as interpreting marks on Mars as canals or seeing shapes in clouds.


But I got to admit. Looks like a skull to me. Pretty freaky.

I just read a NYT op-ed mentioning that The Scream was influenced by Krakatoa, even up in Oslo:
