I hope the library was having fun with some historical trivia that someone stumbled on and isn't actually keeping track of this. If they are, they are complete imbeciles. Any normal organization would have just listed stuff like this as unrecoverable and moved on. If this is still showing up in reports of lost books, it means they're spending far more reviewing stuff that doesn't even exist anymore than the books were ever worth.
