Here is an example

and an actual Ansel Adams Print for another example

First prize: Ti membership for the photographer and 3 free Ti memberships for him or her to gift to a deserving member (If the winner is already TI, they can gift the prize Ti as well)

Second Prize: same as First prize + 2 gift Ti

Third Prize: Ti + 1 gift Ti

Fourth Prize: Ti membership

All promo Titanium and Gifted Titanium memberships from this contest are lifetime memberships.....you'll never have to renew them. Good luck and enjoy!

I had been hiking through this valley for seven hours when I took this photo. I would go on to hike another three before arriving back at my campsite. The location is in Blue Mountains National Park, NSW.

The image is a composite panorama in cylindrical projection covering about 150 degrees. The valley is approximately 400 metres deep.

I assume we can only enter one image. This second image is here for your interest only. Here I have reached the top of the valley. You can actually see the location from which the second image was taken in the first. It is that rock column in the distance about one third of the way from the left of the image.

Ok, here's mine.

edit: the attached pic is an Adams pic that I think shows the same rock, but from a different angle. I'm not 100% sure, but I remember taking this pic in Big Sur, same as Adams.

CA Hwy 120 eastbound, southeast of Mono Lake and about 20 miles northwest from Benton Hot Springs.

I think this one covers most of the zones.

Does it have to be by postprocessing? Is it cheating to duplicate his actual techniques? (However, I will skip having my gear hauled around by a mule!)

Also, you have to give a deadline.

I did give a deadline......April 30th, and yes, you can scan a photo using his actual techniques in post process in a real darkroom, as well as use Photoshop or GIMP or Corel.

By the way, most of Adam's technique was in the darkroom with burning and dodging images and on the front end with push/pull of ISO and F Stops and exposure time and using spot meters to set the exposure to enhance either a shadowed area or a lit area for greater contrast. His negatives before darkroom often as not to the untrained eye looked terrible, but made magic in the print process.

, as as it was referred to in his day, ASA.

You just described every B&W photographer's technique (except not everybody manages to make magic). B&W images are "made" in the darkroom - it is very rare to get a perfect negative out of the box for straightforward printing.

What made Ansel Adams special, besides his patience and eye for beauty that would translate to film, was the zone system he developed and used to great effect (and which you alluded to when you mentioned his use of spot meters).
